Orion Innovation is a premier, award-winning, global business and technology services firm.  Orion delivers game-changing business transformation and product development rooted in digital strategy, experience design, and engineering, with a unique combination of agility, scale, and maturity.  We work with a wide range of clients across many industries including financial services, professional services, telecommunications and media, consumer products, automotive, industrial automation, professional sports and entertainment, life sciences, ecommerce, and education.

Role Summary

  • We are looking for a GenAI Tech Lead to drive the architecture, design, and delivery of our Generative AI initiatives.
  • This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership: you will lead a small squad of GenAI Engineers and Data Engineers, define standards and best practices, and partner with product and business stakeholders to deliver production-grade GenAI solutions.
  • You will own the end-to-end GenAI stack: data and vector stores, RAG and agents, orchestration, and integration into enterprise channels (web apps, APIs, Teams/Copilots, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Ownership

  • Define end-to-end architecture for GenAI solutions (ingestion → embeddings/vector store → RAG/ agents → APIs/UI).
  • Select appropriate models, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks based on use case, security, and cost.
  • Create reference architectures, reusable components, and templates for common GenAI patterns (chat, copilot, summarization, document Q&A, workflows).

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team (GenAI Engineers, Data Engineers, full-stack Engineers).
  • Review designs and code, set engineering standards for GenAI, RAG, prompt design, and data pipelines.
  • Coach the team on GenAI patterns, evaluation, and governance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/master’s in computer science, Engineering, AI/ML, or related field.
  • 10+ years in Software / Data / ML engineering, including 3+ years in AI/ML, and 2+ years specifically in LLM / GenAI projects.
  • Proven experience as a Tech Lead / Architect leading engineering teams or projects.
  • Deep hands-on experience with: LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or equivalent).
  • RAG architectures, embeddings, and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS, Chroma, Qdrant, Azure AI Search).
  • One or more orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph, Copilot Studio, etc.)..
  • Strong Python skills (plus experience with Node.js / C# is a bonus).
  • Experience building cloud-based backend services (FastAPI, Flask, .NET, Node) and integrating with enterprise systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of making architecture decisions and driving them to execution.
  • Experience in Azure or AWS or GCP (GenAI Services)

Nice to Have

  • Experience building enterprise copilots / bots (Teams, M365 Copilot, ServiceNow, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Exposure to on-prem / hybrid GenAI or edge/on-device models.
  • Experience with Lakehouse / data mesh / Fabric / Databricks style architectures.
  • Public speaking, client demos, or internal evangelism experience.
