This is an exciting opportunity to join and support the Transplant program here at Banner Health. As the Transplant Finance Lead, you responsible for the financial activities of the clinical Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory System (MCS) programs at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) and Banner – University Medical Center – Tucson (BUMCT).

This is a full time opportunity working Monday through Friday. Hours may vary. There is opportunity to work remotely but there will be occasional onsite requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the financial activities of the clinical Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory System (MCS) programs at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) and Banner – University Medical Center – Tucson (BUMCT).This includes the pre-transplant, transplant, and post-transplant phases of the kidney, pancreas, liver, lung, and heart programs as well as work associated with ventricular assistance device (VAD), total artificial heart, and other MCS modalities. The position serves as the financial leader of the Transplant and MCS programs. The position works closely with stakeholders to coordinate financial performance activities including revenue cycle, payor contracting, transplant reimbursement, Medicare cost reporting, financial planning and analysis reporting, and program operations. Establishes, meets, and continuously monitors goals and objectives of transplant and MCS programs while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for Banner Health. Provides financial leadership and support to ensure the growth and success of the clinical transplant and MCS programs. Participates in development of short and long-range objectives, policies, budgets, and operating plans. The position identifies and promotes ways to continually improve the financial operations and performance of the clinical transplant and MCS programs.  


CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Identifies programmatic financial development needs/opportunities and provides planning and leadership required to achieve implementation. Engages staff and providers in the decision-making process as appropriate.

2. Works with facility CFOs and Transplant Executive Director to establish annual financial goals. Actively uses benchmarking to high performing systems in similar area of expertise to set annual targets. Prepares, analyzes and delivers reports to facility administrative and provider leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives. Speaks to both positive and negative changes in information and leads discussion in reasons changes could be occurring. Works with Transplant Executive Director and CFOs to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support operation of transplant programs and meet organizational goals.

3. Collaborates with BUMCP/BUMCT CFOs and finance teams to develop and monitor the annual budget related to the transplant and MCS programs. This includes revenue, expenses, and capital equipment sufficient to meet current and projected patient volume and service requirements.

4. Collaborates with revenue cycle on billing, coding, and collection activities according to ensure alignment with payor contracts. Manages audit activities as appropriate to ensure ongoing compliance and understanding of processes. Partners with contracting and revenue cycle leaders to optimize reimbursement. Maintains an understanding of basic operational activity of the program and status of annual cost reporting activities.

5. Evaluates current financial processes, identifies need for change and implements change via process improvement projects to achieve optimal financial outcomes that are in alignment with program operations. Continually monitors processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Implements change through multi-disciplinary work group process.

6. Leads discussion and analysis with operational team and key players to address program denials and cases under financial review.

7. Partners with Medicare Cost Report team to ensure maximization of opportunity associated with the Medicare Cost Report.

8. Provides leadership within the transplant and MCS programs to assist in meeting and exceeding organizational expectations. This includes Monitoring and analyzing financial data to utilize for decisions regarding FTE’s, staffing and operational budget.

9. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements/preparedness and quality improvement as it relates to financial processes in collaboration with program leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, related field or equivalent experience.

5 years progressive finance experience in solid organ transplant or in a clinical service line with relevant applicability.

Experience in a large academic or complex health program that includes Transplant services.

Understanding of UNOS policies and CMS standards, MSDRGs, ICD 10 procedure codes.

Understanding of medical terminology and working knowledge of commercial and Medicare benefit coverage.
