Since 2001, Northrop Grumman has delivered Through-Life Support to the Royal Australian Air Force’s 34 Squadron located at RAAF Fairbairn in Canberra. The high-performing Northrop Grumman SPA (Special Purpose Aircraft) team is comprised of approximately 50 staff who provide all levels of maintenance, training and logistics support to the fleet of two Boeing BBJ’s and three Dassault Falcon 7X’s Business Jets.

In line with this commitment, we have created an expression of interest for the Operations Manager role within the SPA program, in anticipation of potential internal movements. Given the critical nature of this position to the program’s success, we are preparing to backfill the role swiftly if an internal move occurs. This approach will also allow for a thorough handover period, ensuring that the incoming Operations Manager is set up for success.
Your Role
As the Operations Manager within our prestigious SPA program, you will uphold the elite standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence that define our aviation operations. This rare opportunity involves overseeing the comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft and engines within a program renowned for its impeccable track record. You’ll ensure every aircraft under your supervision is in peak condition and ready for operation. Your duties include scheduling inspections, managing external repair services when necessary, and authorising aircraft release, all while adhering to our rigorous standards.
Reporting to the SPA Program Manager, you will lead the SPA AMO workforce, ensuring alignment with operational demands. Your role is vital in maintaining the exceptional safety and regulatory compliance that our program is known for, while driving continuous improvement in maintenance practices and operational efficiency. Your leadership will be central to sustaining and enhancing the distinguished reputation of the SPA program.
About You
You are a seasoned professional with a background in Aviation Management, Engineering, or a related field, supported by formal qualifications such as a Civil or Military Aircraft Trade Certificate. Your deep understanding of Australian Civil and Defence Aviation regulations, along with hands-on experience in maintenance control systems and OEM service literature, distinguishes you as an expert in your field.
Your leadership is marked by strong negotiation skills and clear, authoritative communication, allowing you to effectively guide teams and collaborate with high-level stakeholders. Your meticulous attention to detail and analytical skills enable you to make informed decisions that uphold both safety and efficiency. With a strong focus on customer service and a commitment to excellence, you are driven to maintain the high standards of the SPA program while developing your team. Your focus on leadership and continuous improvement will help sustain and build upon the strong reputation of our SPA program.
