Position Summary
Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment will join a collegial team of other employment lawyers within a large legal department, primarily supporting a line(s) of business and/or corporate functions.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic and practical legal advice to assigned CVS Health business units and Human Resources partners on all relevant federal, state and local labor and employment laws and provide guidance based on an understanding of the business and priorities.
  • Identify and assess potential legal risks related to employment practices and proactively develop and implement forward-thinking strategies to mitigate these risks while supporting the company’s business objectives.
  • Collaborate with HR and other stakeholders to design and deliver training programs for HR, management, and employees on employment and labor law compliance, anti-discrimination policies, harassment prevention, and other relevant topics.
  • Provide strategic and practical labor law advice to Labor Relations partners concerning traditional labor relations issues and matters involving, among other things, labor relations strategy, collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration processing and unfair labor practice litigation management.
  • Manage employment-related claims and litigation.
  • Provide employment law support in corporate transactions, including due diligence, employee integration, and related contractual matters.
  • Stay current with changes or developments in employment laws and regulation, providing guidance on compliance and best-practices pursuant to legal guidelines. Support efforts to adopt new policies and practices in response to new or evolving legal requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department of a publicly-traded company, preferably in or pertaining to a retail or healthcare organization  and with a large employee base, with a focus on labor and employment law issues nationwide.
  • Active and good standing membership of a state bar or in-house counsel licensure to practice law in a corporate legal department.
  • Proven experience managing a large docket of employment-related litigation, including numerous class/collective actions, and handling complex legal matters with significant financial and reputational implications.
  • Strong management-side traditional labor law experience.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Contribute to an environment where individuals are comfortable speaking up, and information is shared transparently, clearly, and in a respectful way.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines without significant direcsupervision.
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and practical approach to identifying and resolving legal issues.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical practices and highest standards of legal integrity.
  • Exercises sound and professional judgment.
  • Responsive to requests and strong adherence to deadlines.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$175,100.00 - $334,750.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
