The Accessory Development Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and validation of automotive components and systems within the Accessory Development department. This position champions the development process through all phases of design and implementation, including benchmarking, concept generation, prototype proposals, validation, and compliance. This role requires the ability to balance team priorities between program management, innovation of new concepts, and integration of existing products to ensure the product portfolio has long-term success. Ideal candidates will have significant, demonstrable experience in Tier 1 or OEM automotive product development, strong communication skills, initiative, and strong business acumen.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure proper design throughout engineering development process (products are developed to APQP principles), including CAD, 3D printing, drawings, benchmarking, and design reviews 
  • Ensure Current and Future Opportunity Reviews (CFOR) are scheduled and held at appropriate times with adequate representation 
  • Project management and product development administration including issue management and escalation 
  • Oversee compliance to department, enterprise, and regulatory standards  
  • Ensure all team members utilize the department project management tool (ADAPT)  
  • Support commercial activity through concept proposal generation including the review of supplier presentations, quotes, supplier selection, and other sourcing activities 
  • Support activities to root cause and implement corrective actions for component-level quality issues 
  • Ensure satisfactory testing/evaluation is performed for products and processes 
  • Ensure compliance to technical standards during and post prototype vehicle build 
  • Requires a strong understanding of product design, requirements, and development status to support the design responsible engineer 
  • Ensure competitive benchmarking research activities to facilitate competitive designs and product proposals 
  • Analyze market potential for new development and drive business cases as appropriate 
  • Diagnose system integration issues and pinpoint resolution 
  • Manage complex assignments requiring independent problem solving and decision making 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial / Systems Engineering, or a related field of study 
  • Requires strong technical understanding of various commodities  
  • Requires strong understanding of FMVSS standards and processes 
  • Strong program management skills & ability to organize assigned work projects 
  • CAD experience 
  • Basic PC and MS Suite skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Root cause analysis experience 
  • Strong technical understanding of automotive systems 
  • Experience developing and/or working with internal and industry standards 
  • Ability to evaluate, understand, and effectively describe complicated drawings and schematics 
  • Must display the ability to identify problems, elevate concerns, recommend solutions, and resolve issues

  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25%–35% as required.
