About the Role:

We are seeking a Software Engineer with expertise in Ruby on Rails and Java to join our Orders and Payments team. This team is responsible for the core systems that manage transactions, process payments, and ensure a seamless experience for our customers. You’ll be pivotal in evolving the design, implementation, and operational support of systems that are critical to Groupon’s marketplace.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and enhance applications that support order processing and payment systems within the Groupon microservice ecosystem.
  • Build and maintain high-scalability systems that manage transaction processing and payment fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure that business-critical features and compliance requirements are effectively implemented.
  • Plan and execute deployment of services, ensuring smooth delivery and operational stability.
  • Improve system reliability by identifying key metrics, setting alert thresholds, and automating responses to issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for the systems you work on.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support.
  • Lead technical discussions, contributing to decisions that shape the future of the Orders and Payments systems.

About You:

  • Education: BE/BTech or ME/MTech in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience: 6+ years of software development experience
  • Languages: Strong coding skills in Ruby and Java; proficiency in other languages like C, C++, Python is a plus.
  • Fundamentals: Strong foundation in design patterns, data structures & algorithms, and operating systems.
  • Database Skills: Proficiency in relational databases (MySQL, Postgres); familiarity with NoSQL databases is an advantage.
  • Web Applications: Experience developing, supporting, and troubleshooting web applications in a transactional environment.
  • Build Tools: Experience with tools such as Maven, Ant, Ivy, or Griddle.
  • Debugging: Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills.
