Senior Manager of Optical Engineering, Cloud Module R&D (San Jose, US)

Lumentum has an opportunity for a senior manager of optical engineering in the Cloud Module R&D team based in San Jose, US.    

JOB DESCRIPTION

This experienced individual is responsible for the design and development of optical systems and lead the optical engineering team in advanced fiber optical transceivers. This role requires a deep understanding of optics principles and the ability to apply them to create the best-in-class optical subsystem, and lead the group in close collaboration with other optical communication system designers to ensure that the optical system meets technical specifications and environmental requirements while optimizing for manufacturability, cost, and performance. A successful candidate will have a blend of technical knowledge, leadership, practical skills, and collaborative ability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the optical roadmap and systems architecture for advanced fiber optical transceivers, balancing performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability
• Lead end‑to‑end design of optical/illumination/imaging/laser/fiber subsystems: requirements, simulation, tolerance analysis, prototype bring‑up, design verification (DV), and production validation (PV)
• Integrate optical components into mechanical and electronic systems together with mechanical engineer, electrical engineers in various products, e.g. ship on board optical transceivers, co-packaged optics
• Conduct testing to verify that the optical systems meet the required specifications and performance levels.
• Lead the optical engineering group and set the technical direction of the group
• Mentor and grow a high performing team of optical engineers and technicians
• Establish best practices, reviews, and technical standards

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• MS or PhD in Optical Engineering/Physics or equivalent education.
• Experience of managing engineers, hiring, coaching, performing.
• Proven track of record with high volume, market dominant products.
• Motivated, result driven team player.
• Experience of developing various transceivers with market success is ideal.
• Experience in optical design and familiarity with optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, FRED).
• Proficient in understanding and applying principles of optics to the fiber optical communication system and components.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other engineering disciplines and documenting design processes.
• Multi-disciplinary background with a demonstrated record of innovation.
• Strong program leadership, clear technical writing/drawing practices, and the ability to influence across functions and suppliers

Pay Range:

P80-USA-1 :$145,550.00 - $207,900.00
