We are seeking an Engineering Lead to join our Turnaround (TA) core team in Fort McMurray. In this role, you will play a critical role in the success of turnaround (TA) events, working closely with Production Units (PU), project managers, planning, and execution teams. You will ensure all technical activities align with the Turnaround Basis Memorandum (TABM) and are delivered efficiently and safely.Minimum Requirements:
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in mechanical or process engineering
10 or more years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, with direct support to production units
3 or more years of experience as a Turnaround Technical Lead
Familiarity with Pre-Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR) processes (considered an asset)
Strong skills in risk assessment, critical thinking, and managing complex technical scopes
Ability to remain flexible and effective amid changing priorities, unplanned outages, and evolving scopes.
Proven ability to perform efficiently in high-pressure, time-sensitive operational environments
Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Key Accountabilities:
Scope Development (T-28 to T-18 Months):
Analyze past close-outs and lessons learned
Lead scope development with cross-functional teams and ensure compliance with Risk Based Work Scope (RBWS) and TABM
Facilitate multi-discipline reviews and third-party Risk Base Scope Review (RBSR) sessions
Generate and present worklist sign-off packages
Coordinate priorities for engineering and support PU-TA alignment
Pre-TA Planning:
Act as the single point of contact (SPOC) for technical queries
Challenge and steward scope based on RBWS during notification reviews
Manage scope changes and budget-driven offsets
Prioritize engineering deliverables across events and maintain milestone compliance
Scope Optimization:
Lead discussions to reduce scope based on RBWS, risk, and business priorities
Provide recommendations and quantify impacts (e.g., Direct Field Labour hours, cost)
Execution Window:
Support TA manager as SPOC for all engineering and technical matters
Assemble TA Engineering/QA org chart and onboard engineers
Screen repair requests and engineering packages before distribution and manage scope changes and alignment between PU and TA
Lead assessments for critical repairs, provide technical options, and facilitate decision-making
Event Close-Out (T+6):
Compile technical reports from all engineering disciplines
Lead technical close-out activities and awareness sessions and host lessons learned reviews and collect scope for future TA cycles
Location and other Key Details:
You will work out of Syncrude Mildred Lake, Syncrude Aurora or Suncor Base Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
