BMO Leveraged Finance sits within the Investment & Corporate Banking Division of BMO Capital Markets and is comprised of two teams – Leveraged Finance Origination and Leveraged Finance Capital Markets.   Leveraged Finance focuses on providing comprehensive and innovative financing advice to financial sponsors and non-investment grade issuers across industries.  This includes advising clients on optimal capital structure, underwriting financing packages, negotiating terms and documentation, advising on execution considerations and distribution to the institutional syndicated markets or private capital markets.  Leveraged Finance offers a mix of products (High Yield bonds, leveraged loans, private credit) which help our clients facilitate Leveraged Buyouts and M&A transactions, repurchase shares, fund shareholder distributions, refinance existing debt, as well as provide them with working capital and liquidity.  The Leveraged Finance Group is made up of capital markets, industry specific origination coverage, and private credit advisory.  In addition to interacting with corporate and sponsor clients and investment banking, the Leveraged Finance Group works closely with sales and trading and high yield, leveraged loan and private credit investors.

Our New York office is looking for an Associate to join Leveraged Finance Origination

Key Accountabilities

• Participates in deal teams to develop, present, and win mandates for new opportunities.
• Creates pitch books for financial sponsor and corporate clients with respect to financial solutions and participate in their presentation to clients.
• Integral to the execution of transactions, solving complex problems using rigorous analytical techniques, negotiation of legal documentation, leading workstreams and driving deliverables, and regularly presenting to senior executives.
• Monitors client, client industry, and regulatory agencies for potential changes that may affect client portfolio and business needs.
• Conducts due diligence (e.g., client visits, business model analysis, comprehensively reviewing industry trends and related regulations, auditor and legal).
• Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients.
• Provides analytical findings to deal teams.
• Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
• Creates financial models to analyze client portfolios and anticipate client needs.
• Analyzes/ assesses industry compilations.
• Applies appropriate technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses to support client deliverables.
• Understands the complexity of transactions and related risk (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).
• Provides feedback on, and supports continuous improvement opportunities.
• Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.
• Provides direction and feedback to Analysts; accountable for development and mentoring of Analysts.
• Delivers financial modeling to support strategic recommendations to clients.
• Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
• Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include being adaptable to unique situations.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and an outstanding academic achievement.
• 3+ years of investment banking or valuation experience at a financial analyst level.
• Knowledge of capital markets, investment banking products and applicable regulations.
• Demonstrates solid deal/transaction execution and/or project management skills.
• Exceptional skills in quantitative analytics, financial modeling.
• Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.

Base Salary: USD $175,000-225,000 depending on level and experience

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
