Job Description Summary

               

Boiler - Refrigeration operator mechanic

Job Description

The Boiler/Refrigeration Technician is a primary member of a team, which includes a Planner, Maintenance Administrator, Wet Line Mechanics, Packaging Mechanics, Electricians and Boiler/Refrigeration Technicians, Maintenance Supervisors and the Maintenance Manager.  This position reports primarily to the Boiler/Refrigeration maintenance supervisor, Maintenance Team Leaders and shift manager on shift.

The Warden facility produces food service French fries, shredded and southern style hash browns and specialty products.

The individual in this position must be able to perform mechanical repairs in all areas of their responsibility and be fully capable of operating all Boiler/Refrigeration equipment and support systems.

The individual in the position must establish and maintain open communications and productive work relationships with Team Members, Maintenance Team Leaders, other Shift Support Personnel and the Shift Manager.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Boiler/Refrigeration systems and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.  It is imperative the Boiler/Refrigerator Mechanics conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and the surroundings. 

The area of work includes both inside the facility and outside, depending of work requirements.  Weekend and overtime work in this position is common and may be required to meet operational goals.  This position requires ability to work in extreme environments of hot and cold.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have successfully completed the Boiler System training qualification checklist, within 6 months.
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment, such as respirators, SCBA, and safety harness.
  • Must be able to effectively and accurately read, process and complete work orders, obtain materials from supply and gather information from operator’s manuals.
  • Must be able to read and understand written instructions, plant, equipment and manufacturers’ manuals, Material Safety Data Sheets, instructional manuals, blueprints, layouts and engineering drawings. 
  • Must possess basic writing skills for recording pertinent information on daily logs, preventative maintenance forms, work orders and purchase request forms.
  • Must have basic math skills (addition, subtraction, fractions and multiplication) to perform measurements, fabrication, timing, conveyor belt speeds and gear ratios on equipment.
  • Must be able to use measuring devices such as tape measures, scales, gauges, calipers, grease guns, etc.  Ability to operate valves, keyboards, equipment and other controls.
  • Must be able to use written logbooks, plant computer system, maintenance work order and supply system.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills, such as basic word processing and e-mail.
  • Must be able to communicate orally with team leaders, operators, mechanics, supervisors, managers and peers in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to communicate emergency information using correct procedures and terminology.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, have considerable manual dexterity with both hands and possess good hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to work under extreme conditions such as hot and cold air, wet environments, hot and cold water, hot oil, and slick floors; inside and outside the Plant.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, catwalks, work in confined areas, maneuver in close quarters and heights.
  • Must be able to furnish own basic hand tools, as needed.
  • Must be able to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and pickup trucks, which includes a valid Washington State driver’s license and all required certification.
  • Must have knowledge of pumps and pneumatic systems.
  • Must have knowledge of basic shop safety practices.
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment, such as safety harnesses, and abide by GMP rules.
  • Must be able to work within a team.
  • Must be able to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $40.11
