Are you ready to lead a team of innovative engineering professionals and make a significant impact in the world of Hydraulic Mining Shovels (HMS)? This role is based in Tucson, AZ, and offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our HMS Performance and Controls Team. Reporting to this position are various levels of team leaders, engineers, and support personnel in one or more geographic locations. This role requires a long-range focus on business strategy. Key responsibilities include planning for future resources and developing capabilities in terms of people and technology; consciously establishing a culture that encourages innovation, partnering, and collaborative relationships and a customer focus; developing partnerships within Caterpillar and with suppliers and customers; and integrating products and services to meet customers’ needs.

What you will do:

  • Manage HMS Performance & Controls strategy development and project execution.

  • Supervise product group machine simulation effort.  Ensure the library of machine simulation models is complete and maintained.

  • Supervise development and maintenance of machine product performance requirements.

  • Support marketing and commercial teams with technical information related to machine performance.

  • Manage HMS product group safety and regulatory efforts including strategy development, guideline development, product compliance, and project execution.

  • Manage HMS product group validation activities supporting new product development programs and continuous improvement activities working closely with peers in supporting organizations such as the Tucson Proving Grounds.

  • Manage support and maintenance activities for legacy machine software and control hardware.

  • Manage product group issue list including NPI, Maintenance, BIQ, AQE’s, etc.

  • Participate in regular product design reviews.

  • Manage budget for team and program activities.

  • Regularly report out to product group leadership on the status of team activities.

  • Coach and facilitate the development of the workgroup to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross-functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved.

  • Proactively identify roadblocks and work with teams to rapidly resolve to improve overall team and program efficiency.

  • Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve machine performance problems or to field-test locations to support product validation activities as needed.

  • This role is accountable for protecting Caterpillar’s intellectual property by properly classifying and restricting access to Caterpillar technical information related to their area of responsibility.

• Utilizes preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time.

• Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects.

• Identifies risks and vulnerabilities; creates contingency plans.

Education Requerment:

Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

Top Candidates will also have:

Experience developing innovative hydraulic system architectures.

Knowledge of Caterpillar processes (i.e. NPI, CPPD, PPRD, APQP, CPI, BIQ).

Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ.

Domestic relocation assistance is available.

Occasional travel (10%) may be required to support activities at manufacturing and/or customer sites.
