Position Purpose:

The Principal Solutions Architect is responsible for designing solutions for key strategic initiatives, including (but not limited to) developing conceptual architecture solutions that encompass business, applications/integrations, data, infrastructure, platform, and security architectures.

In this role, you will act as the Principal Solutions Architect for key strategic initiatives for the Medicaid line of business.  This includes a) meeting with our State or Market partners to better understand the problem to be solved, b) being able to translate those business needs to technical solutions, c) being able to work with product owners and other architects to build a conceptual technical solution to the problem, d) being able to socialize the solution to senior leaders within BTS and the business, as well as impacted engineering teams.  You will play a key role in advancing the modernization journey of our Medicaid line of business, aligning with our overall Enterprise IT Strategy.

  • Provides leadership and oversight to solution architects and engineers intimately familiar with the application architectures within their specific domain.

  • Provides expertise on decisions and priorities regarding overall Medicaid business systems architecture.

  • Integrates architecture guidelines, standards, and common services to support project integration requirements. 

  • Plans, coordinates, and develops activities related to the initial scoping of software programs, applications, and third-party solutions to meet the organization's business requirements.

  • Provides expertise on decisions and priorities regarding overall Medicaid business systems architecture.

  • Creates all required Solution artifacts, including solution design and impact assessments, for Medicaid portfolio OneList intakes to move into the Planning phase.

  • Ability to analyze State requirements and determine potential impacts to BTS and possible solution approaches.

  • Able to provide input to our RFP responses on how we currently or will meet a State requirement or capability.

  • Knowledgeable about internal Centene Medicaid applications and processes, solution design processes and procedures.

  • Knowledgeable about AI, understanding the types of problems within it, and what additional restrictions and limitations are needed with AI working with sensitive data.

  • Knowledgeable about CMS policies and Medicaid direction on technology and how these changes impact States and Payers.

  • Stays current on industry trends and expectations of healthcare IT.

  • Ability to create diagrams to be able to convey a story of how a problem will be solved, which can be used for external consumers to understand how our systems function.

  • Contribute to the Medicaid portfolio’s 1-3 year roadmap.

  • Able to support evaluating innovations from vendors/partners and can identify how those innovations will impact our Medicaid platforms and ecosphere.

  • Ability to understand and translate business requirements to BTS solutions that align with the overall technology vision.

  • Ability to collaborate with Digital, Data, EBP, EA, Infra, Ops, and Security to deliver solutions that align technology with business objectives and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Champion the adoption of emerging technologies like AI, FHIR, and migration from on-prem to the Cloud.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and requires deep functional and Centene specific knowledge with 6 – 8 years of related experience.
Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep functional and Centene specific knowledge with related experience.

  • Deep understanding of Medicaid healthcare payer operations, including claims processing, member and provider data management, end-to-end workflows, contact center strategies, member and provider engagement strategies.

  • SME level understanding of what internal applications are being used to support the Medicaid line of business at Centene.

  • Demonstrable experience creating solution design architecture documents.

  • Demonstrable experience collaborating with cross-domain teams to develop a solution.

  • SME level technical skills in the following areas: application and integration architecture.

  • SME level understanding of cloud design and architecture for one or more public cloud providers.

  • SME level understanding of APIs and microservices-based architecture.

  • SME level understanding of both SQL and NoSQL database technologies as well as Cloud database technologies.

  • Understanding of technologies that work as the glue between modern applications and legacy infrastructure leveraging streaming platforms like Apache Kafka.

  • Understanding of AI/GenAI technologies.

Pay Range: $143,100.00 - $264,300.00 per year

Centene offers a comprehensive benefits package including: competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible approach to work with remote, hybrid, field or office work schedules.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law, including full-time or part-time status.  Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may be subject to program eligibility.
