Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Sr Manager responsible for the Capital Projects department, located in Geel (Belgium)

At Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) we take care of all J&J buildings in Belgium providing services from Real Estate, Engineering & Strategic Project Delivery to Facilities Management. The Sr Manager (Team Lead Geel) is accountable for the performance of assigned projects on the Geel site, leading projects thru our standard Project management standards FPX (Flawless Project Execution) and IDEA (ideation, definition, execution and assessment phases). The major activities of the Sr manager are: coordinate and align the team of internal (4) and external (5) project managers and the construction coordinator, translate the need of our internal clients in a technical solution, using learning adoption internally and externally, ensure that our standards and agency regulations like FDA are followed, ensure safety and appropriate quality during design, construction and handover of the projects. The Sr Project Manager will join the E&PS Project delivery team responsible for executing IM and RnD projects globally and will report into the Project Director responsible for Belgium.

The best candidate for this role has people leadership experience, and experience of leading end to end capital projects and/or portfolio management. Practical experience on project construction sites is a bonus. They have good communication skills and (basic) knowledge of process engineering, HVAC and E&I. Knowledge of the pharma or fine Chemicals is preferable. You are eager to learn continuously and like to work with many colleagues and partners across other functional areas who are involved in your projects. Making good relationships and align team members is something that gives you energy.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Successfully lead a team of Project Managers that execute a Portfolio of (50-120) projects ranging from 1M€ to 50MM€ simultaneously.
  • Lead portfolio performance ensuring that cost, schedule, and cash-flow targets are met.
  • Take charge in aligning with business partners to identify business needs, devise appropriate business solutions and prioritize projects. Serve as the key contact for urgent matters and critical issues.
  • Lead portfolio planning and manage project's resources, using internal and external partners capabilities to adequately and timely resource each project.
  • Define the communication plan and advise sponsor, user and other partners on a regular basis by creating, maintaining and presenting reports on project status (scope, budget, planning, risks and mitigations and overall performance against baseline targets)
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, statutory and regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
  • Support Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) preparation, socialization, and submission, enabling fast and smooth approval in alignment to corporate funding procedures.
  • Manage the adherence of the Site construction quality requirements together with the Construction coordinator, as well as the Site construction logistics
  • Lead a Construction Safety culture, acting as Construction Safety Champion, partnering with EHS ensuring that standards are implemented and portfolio safety metrics are met.
  • If needed, acts as Project Lead on Projects from concept to post implementation stage accordance our standard IDEA process.
     

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent through experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
     

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Required:

  • People Management skills – has acted as Department head or Team Lead (min 5yrs of expertise).
  • Minimum of 15 years of Project Management and/or Portfolio management experience.
  • Prior experience with capital projects in the industry (Pharm and/or Fine Chemicals).
  • Practical experience on project construction sites.
  • Understands business needs and can translate these to engineering concepts.
  • Process-oriented, process knowledgeable.
  • Ability to lead and empower remote and virtual teams and partners.
  • Good listening and problem-solving skills when handling potential conflicts within regions when implementing global standards and guidelines. Understanding sophisticated technical/regulatory issues impacting products.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships at all levels within the organization, internally (FM/GET/RE) and with Business partners (Finance/ E&D/ Operations).
  • Knowledge of Project Controls in cost and schedule development, financial assessments and managing of budget and schedule.
  • Experience in contracting and negotiation.
  • Manufacturing experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design through startup is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with J&J PM approaches (FPX & IDEA Project Delivery Process) is an advantage.

Travel Requirements: This position can require up to 10% domestic travel.
