The State and Local Indirect Tax team provides valuable advice to our clients on solving their most pressing sales tax issues. Our indirect tax consultants work across a wide variety of industries and tax jurisdictions to assist our clients in identifying solutions and making informed decisions through researching tax laws, representing clients in tax controversy situations and recommending strategies to minimize their sales tax liabilities. 

RSM US LLP is looking for a Tax Senior Manager for Indirect Tax, including Washington Excise Taxes (B&O, sales and use and REET) as well as general gross receipts and sales and use tax consulting within our expanding State & Local Tax (SALT) practice.  This role provides an opportunity to join a high-performing tax practice.  As a Tax Senior Manager for RSM, you will be responsible for the following job duties, which are focused around three core concepts: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients
  • Drive growth and profitability of industry/specialty area by generating new revenue on existing client portfolio, cross selling and new clients for the tax practice
  • Advise clients on Washington B&O tax matters, Washington Real Estate Excise Tax (REET), Washington sales and use tax consulting, audit defense, M&A due diligence and other state sales and use tax as well as gross receipts tax consulting in conjunction with the overall tax team
  • Serve as a Performance Advisor, mentor or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback
  • Train and develop staff members
  • Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a non-technical manner to facilitate communication between the client and the service team while managing the risk for both the client and the firm
  • Interact directly with clients handling questions, planning, consulting, etc.
  • Serving as Tax client service coordinator while developing and executing the firm’s client service plan
  • Reviewing research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards
  • Build relationships across lines of business to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach
  • Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Some travel may be required (varies based on location, line of business and client need)

Basic Qualifications:

8+ years of experience providing Washington Excise Tax, gross receipts tax as well as sales and use tax consulting services in a Public Accounting, Consulting or Law Firm

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA, JD, LLM or EA
  • Must be able to support financial growth efforts and manage a book of business
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, detail oriented and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record simultaneously managing multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients
  • Project management and critical thinking skills

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $137,700 - $276,700

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
