Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, Cardiopulmonary & Rehab, the Exercise Physiologist is responsible for conducting appropriate tests and evaluations; developing, instructing and monitoring appropriate exercise/strength regimens; and educating on lifestyle changes/risk-factor modification for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients. Position includes serving as a resource for hospital staff and community.

                         

Job Details

  • Utilizes assessment skills to provide patient care in Phase II and Phase III of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Teaches patient/family education classes relating to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Documents problems and reports patient progress to physicians in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Serves as a consultant for the department, hospital, and community in relation to exercise principles, fitness equipment, and wellness in general.
  • Assists with development and implementation of new policies, procedures, programs and projects.
  • Provides information to community via public forums as needed.
  • Interacts/integrates with members of all departments in an effort to provide total patient care.
  • Attends continuing education programs to remain updated on advances in technology and patient care techniques.
  • Develops, instructs, and monitors individualized rehabilitation goals including risk factor reduction and exercise prescriptions in collaboration with the other cardiac rehab staff members.
  • Assists in developing and evaluating improvement performance standards.
  • Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
  • Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in exercise physiology.


Certifications:

  • Certification as Exercise Leader and/or Exercise Specialist preferred. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).


Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.


Work Experience:

  • Two years experience in cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation.
