Job Description:
The Finance Operations Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing treasury and procurement activities within the finance department at Sun Life International (SLI). This role ensures the efficient handling of financial operations, including payment processing, vendor relations, and financial reporting. The candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with the team to ensure smooth financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Treasury:
- Generating payments for Employee’s, disability payments, travel, entertainment reimbursements etc.
- Oversee the daily wires process for cash management and client transactions ensuring full compliance with internal controls related to treasury function
- Monitor and manage daily cashflow ensuring sufficient liquidity and cashflow efficiency in collaboration with corporate treasury function
- Support the roll-out of Treasury initiatives including treasury payment tools to assist with the optimization of treasury processes
- Working with International Finance accounting team to ensure that accounting has been performed accurately for transactions processed by Bermuda Treasury
- Handle complex enquiries from business partners and ensure client focused solutions
- Liaise with SLI departments to ensure the timely management and resolution of all banking queries
- Support and actively participate in cross functional process improvements, systems integrations and automation
- Prepare and maintain financial reports related to treasury activities
Commissions:
- Ensure the commission cycles end-close with the successful release of commission payments and statements to advisors
- Respond proactively to advisor and distribution firm inquiries or concerns, to ensure a high degree of client satisfaction
- Perform manual calculations ensuring application to appropriate processes, tools and techniques to perform the commission and disbursement functions
- Reconcile and initiate payments for all Commissions for SLI lines of business
- Investigate aged trail commission records and work with relevant stakeholders (internal and external) to find resolutions proposing write-offs where necessary
- Prepare and maintain financial reports related to commissions activities
- Develop and maintain client relationships while ensuring confidentiality
Procurement Operations/Accounts Payable:
- Monitor the procurement process for all goods and services in accordance with the operating guidelines. This includes ensuring that appropriate approvals are obtained, and appropriate documentation is maintained
- Be an active participant through continuous process improvement activities and projects
- Assist and advise supplier relationship managers with their sourcing/procurement needs
- Maintain the Preferred Supplier Program for SLI
- Identify and escalate any risk related issues with partners on related risk teams to ensure business partners are receiving best possible guidance on their engagements
- Create and maintain repository of process documentation
- Prepare and maintain financial reports related to procurement activities
- Act as a subject matter expert in Procurement processes and requirements
- Assist colleagues during high-volume periods
Experience & Qualification Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in a Procurement/Treasury/Commissions environment preferably in Insurance Services with exposure to payments of high volume
- Bachelors’ degree in Business, Finance or Accounting is preferred
- Strong client service orientation
- Exceptional communication (verbal & written), and analytical skills
- Ability to act independently and support business partners through issue resolution
- Strong aptitude towards process development and documentation
- Works well in a fast paced environment with ability to manage change in an agile environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) is required
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, as required to liaise with other Sun Life offices located in other time zones
