The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit specializes in the post-operative management of patients undergoing cardiac surgery and other complex cardiovascular procedures. Patients are admitted directly from the operating room, where they are closely monitored, stabilized, weaned from supportive therapies, and extubated as appropriate. The unit also receives critically ill cardiovascular patients transferred from other facilities, including those experiencing surgical complications or requiring advanced evaluation and care not available elsewhere. 

The Registered Nurse (RN) on J65 delivers expert critical care and  
post-operative management for patients undergoing cardiac surgery and complex cardiovascular procedures in a 14-bed Cardiovascular ICU. This highly collaborative, fast-paced unit is committed to advancing cardiovascular care, optimizing patient outcomes, and maintaining excellence in critical care nursing. 

A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation| 7:00am—7:30pm or 7:00pm—7:30am| Weekend and holiday rotations are required. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Provide direct nursing care. 

• Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.  

• Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

• Administer prescribed medications and treatments. 

• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

• Educate patients and their families.   

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program) 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

• If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment 

• One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
