Role Summary
Reporting to the Deputy CEO, Life & Health, the Chief Innovation and Growth Officer plays a strategic leadership role in driving innovation, transformation, and growth agenda for the Life & Health business in SLHK. The role acts as a trusted advisor to the Deputy CEO, Life & Health, shaping business strategies through data‑driven insights, competitive benchmarking, and deep industry expertise. This position oversees cross‑functional execution of high‑impact initiatives, strengthens operational effectiveness, and elevates organizational readiness for future growth.
Job Responsibilities
a) Strategy, Innovation & Growth Development
- Lead the organization’s innovation agenda by identifying emerging market trends, whitespace opportunities and disruptive solutions to drive new business growth.
- Develop strategic roadmaps for new market entry, product innovation, and diversified business opportunities, incorporating financial projections and risk considerations.
- Provide the Deputy CEO with high‑quality strategic counsel through market analysis, financial performance monitoring, and data‑driven insights supporting both short‑ and long‑term planning.
- Conduct competitive benchmarking to anticipate industry shifts in insurance, health, wealth and distribution.
b) Operational Excellence & Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations across L&H and Distribution by strengthening communication flows, fostering collaboration, and enhancing organizational alignment.
- Drive operational improvements that enhance business agility, strengthen risk awareness, and improve the overall effectiveness of operating model for L&H business.
- Lead critical enterprise‑wide initiatives, ensuring timely, coordinated execution and alignment to strategic priorities across local, regional, and corporate stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop high‑potential talent, building a strong leadership pipeline to support future business growth.
c) Stakeholder, Communication & Engagement Management
- Oversee executive‑level communication and engagement materials, including board materials, management presentations, and internal communication narratives to ensure clarity and alignment.
- Act as a key liaison between the Deputy CEO, L&H and senior leaders to ensure unified execution of priorities and consistent messaging across the organization.
- Strengthen partnerships with external parties to elevate Sun Life’s market position and influence.
d) Transformation, Change Management & People Readiness
- Design and steer organizational change strategies to enable smooth execution of transformation agendas and culture‑shift initiatives.
- Partner closely with HR to build change readiness, manage resistance, and maintain employee morale during periods of transformation.
- Oversee transformation progress tracking, risk mitigation, and refinement of action plans to ensure successful business outcomes.
- Coordinate enterprise‑wide capability building, including transformative training to equip staff with the skills required for future operating models.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution; advanced degrees preferred.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, transformation, or business growth roles within the insurance or financial services sector.
- Deep expertise in life insurance, wealth management, and digital transformation.
- Proven experience advising C‑suite executives on strategic and operational matters.
- Strong capability in data analytics, market insights, benchmarking and financial interpretation.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex, cross‑functional programs and high‑impact strategic initiatives.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Hong Kong’s insurance landscape, regulatory environment, and competitive dynamics.
- Proficiency in project management and data visualization tools (e.g. Jira, Power BI, Tableau).
- Excellent verbal and written English; Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.
- Strategic mindset with strong leadership, agility, and a growth orientation.
