Job Description:

The Ad Platform Engineering organization within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is responsible for building, enhancing, and operating a high-performance, distributed, microservice-based digital advertising platform. This platform powers billions of real-time ad decisions daily across Disney’s video-on-demand and live TV properties, including Hulu, Disney+, ESPN, and more.

Within Ad Platform Engineering, the Programmatic teams build and maintain Disney’s programmatic advertising suite of products and services that comprise Disney's Real-time Ad Exchange (DRAX). DRAX is an award-winning, proprietary supply-side platform (SSP) that enables programmatic deal configuration and integrates demand from multiple third-party sources into Disney’s ad server in real time.

Job Summary

As a Product Software Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners and engineering teams on the design and implementation of innovative products and features, contributing to the evolution of user-centric advertising at scale. You’ll exercise technical ownership, provide peer mentoring, and ensure our systems are robust, observable, and future-ready.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

● Design, build, and support scalable microservices.

● Collaborate with product and engineering peers to deliver features that enhance user-centric advertising.

● Translate user stories into actionable engineering tasks with ownership from development through deployment.

● Support teammates through code reviews, design reviews, and documentation.

● Improve system observability by implementing metrics, monitoring, and alerting solutions.

● Participate in on-call rotations as part of our commitment to operational excellence.

● Understanding and using automated tools (AI) while adhering to company policy.

Basic Qualifications

● 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.

● Proficiency with Java and related frameworks (Spring Boot, ORMs, etc..).

● Strong background in relational databases (MySQL, Postgres), including schema and query design.

● Experience working with RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.

● Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures and algorithms.

● Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience in ad tech.

● Experience with programmatic advertising or real-time bidding platforms.

Experience with:

● Spring Boot and related Spring projects.

● Cloud platforms such as AWS.

● Modern DevOps tools such as Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.

● Data Streaming Mechanisms such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, and/or SNS/SQS.

Required Education

● BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
