Lead Operator, Manufacturing Operations

 Thermo Fisher Scientific’s oral solid dose (OSD) site in Cincinnati, Ohio, supported by over 800 employees, offers various drug development and commercial manufacturing services. These services include controlled and sustained release solid oral dosage forms, osmotic release dosage forms (laser drilling), liquid fill hard capsules, controlled substances manufacturing, and abuse-deterrent dosage forms.

Position Summary

Join our manufacturing team as a Lead Operator, where you will play a critical role in leading daily production activities while mentoring and developing team members. You will ensure consistent execution of manufacturing processes, uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing technologies while supporting operational excellence in a regulated environment.

Shift: Monday-Wednesday 6:00pm-6:30am

A Day in the Life

You will:

  • Lead and coordinate daily manufacturing operations to ensure production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with cGMP and ISO standards

  • Serve as a technical and operational resource for operators, providing guidance, training, and mentorship

  • Review and execute manufacturing documentation, including SOPs, batch records, and work instructions

  • Troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment and process issues, escalating as appropriate

  • Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing practices

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and clean room/controlled environment requirements

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams

  • Participate in documentation review, deviation investigations, and corrective action implementation

  • Maintain accurate records using manufacturing software systems and ERP platforms

Keys to Success

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelors Dedree Preferred fields of study: Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline

  • Technical certifications in manufacturing or a related field are beneficial

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience, with demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments

  • Proven success leading teams, training operators, and managing multiple priorities

  • Experience with batch record review and documentation in cGMP-regulated settings

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of cGMP, ISO standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies

Skills

  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with manufacturing software systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Abilities

  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities

  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and drive results

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to work in PPE and clean room/controlled environments

  • Flexibility to work various shifts and overtime as required
