What you will do: 

The Model Maker will work within the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture, and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each; one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will be located in the Norman, OK Engineering Lab and will report to the Model Shop Supervisor.   

As a Model Maker working in the Engineering Lab, you will work in a climate-controlled HVAC laboratory environment performing build assignments pertinent to operational improvements and product testing for the UPG product line. 

How you will do it: 

  • Fabricate sheet metal and copper parts based on engineering specifications. 

  • Operate and maintain fabrication equipment, including Press Brake, Amada, etc.  

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics

  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure all parts meet specifications and standards. 

  • Perform repairs and modifications to existing components as needed. 

  • Follows established safety procedures, conduct audits, and maintain a clean work area. 

  • Other duties as required 

What We look for:

Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent combined with vocational technical training in Sheet Metal Fabrication. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in sheet metal fabrication, preferably in HVAC or related industries. 
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, fabrication machinery, and capable of operating a forklift 
  • Ability to lift equipment, compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts etc. up to 50 lbs.  
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, as well as general computer proficiency. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. 
  • Excellent team collaboration and communication skill. 
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations – percentages, fractions, average, geometric calculations, etc.
