Job Description:

Position Purpose

Performs journeyman level structural trades work related to general building and equipment maintenance, including carpentry, masonry, tiling, painting, and glazing. Incumbent to receive general directions and instructions from supervisor and must exercise independent and sound judgment to prioritize and complete work.

This position is considered essential, on-site.  Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.

Job Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 4  years work experience in the Structural Trades

  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license

  • Must maintain licenses as a condition of employment

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the structural trades and techniques, and the ability to apply the same skillfully.

  • Must possess own hand tools and be knowledgeable in the care and use of tools and woodworking machinery.

  • Must be able to read and interpret service orders and instructions. 

  • Ability to meet and effectively deal with others in the University community.

  • Must be able to understand and follow standard procedures, and read blueprints.

  • Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and possess the physical strength to perform strenuous work both indoors and outside.

  • Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs throughout the duration of the shift.

  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet.

  • Objective bench test and/or field test will be required

  • May be required to have the ability to work in areas needing a respirator 

  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
