Job Description Summary:

This position assists in the daily and ongoing operation, including oversight of processes related to smooth flow of patients and most efficient use of high-tech ultrasound resources; implement a continuous quality control/improvement program to enhance utilization of these resources; establish an ongoing orientation, training, and continuing education program for Ultrasonographers; and assists in management of inventory control. Independently performs requested ultrasound examinations searching for any possible pathology as indicated by the patients' symptoms, medical history and/or results from previous testing. Reviews and discusses the ultrasound findings with the Radiologists.

Responsibilities And Duties:

60% to 80% Perform duties of Ultrasonographers as needed:
Independently performs various ultrasound examinations including but not limited to general abdominal, obstetric, small parts, vascular, and pediatric. Uses subjective interpretation of information often based on judgmental decisions by the Ultrasonographers, requiring in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Has complete knowledge of ultrasound physics, e. g. time gain compensation curves, attenuation factors, etc., required to set equipment variables properly for appropriate imaging of specific anatomy.
Independently evaluates normal vs. abnormal test results in correlation with patient history, previous examinations, lab results, etc. Assists Radiologists with performance of Invasive Procedures.
Independently gives preliminary ultrasound results to attending physicians, surgeons, residents, etc. regarding any vascular ultrasound procedures as determined by site accreditation.

25% Coordinates daily workload with other clinical sections and departments:
Adjusts patient flow by scheduling workload and staff to maximize equipment utilization; coordinates preparatory procedures with nursing units; arranges with patients and physicians for follow-up examinations; coordinates out-patient scheduling with Central Scheduling to maximize number of out-patient slots available; organizes and directs section personnel to minimize patient waiting time and to maximize efficiency; implements a continuous quality improvement program in compliance with American College of Radiology standards to enhance utilization of these resources; monitors technical quality of patient care, defers major problems to the Manager. Performs basic, as well as advanced, Electronic Medical Record functions e. g. patient arrival, complete, edit, and billing.

Assists with the requirements of orientation, training, required competencies, and OhioHealth University courses; instructs students and associates in training sessions; provides coaching and input into associate performance evaluations; order supplies; assists in establishing inventory control methods to assure operation within the budget; assists in monitoring technical reliability and vendor repair of units. Assumes some managerial functions as needed.

Participates in OhioHealth Innovation Council and other meetings as designated. Designs and implements protocols, orientation, and training programs for Ultrasonographers; designs and implements on-the-job and self-study programs to familiarize Ultrasonographers with equipment operation, cross sectional anatomy, and patient care issues pertinent to imaging. Responsible for teaching/educating Ultrasound students, medical students, and residents, in the basic methods and instrumentation of ultrasound. High School or GED (Required)ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, RDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Additional Job Description:

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE


Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography program; current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or equivalent Certification.

Must have passed the physics and at least one other specialty of the ARDMS or equivalent registry.

Should have competent computer skills with a good understanding of the Electronic Medical Record Systems and other pertinent applications, and intradepartmental processes.

BLS certified.

At least two years of previous Ultrasound Experience.
