Platform Engineer – Developer Platform, Productivity & Experience Engineering

About the Team

The Developer Platform, Productivity & Experience Engineering team within eBay’s Global Technology (CT) builds and operates the AI/ML-powered eBay Developer Platform.

Our scope includes:

• Continuous Delivery platform

• Enterprise Testing platform

• AI-driven no-code/low-code developer tools

• Developer Productivity and Engineering Velocity platforms

Our mission is to eliminate friction in the software development and delivery lifecycle and enable engineers to ship high-quality software at scale.

About the Role

We are seeking a strong Platform Engineer with hands-on experience building distributed systems and modern web applications.

You will:

• Design and develop scalable microservices and backend systems

• Build frontend applications for internal developer platforms (React preferred)

• Architect distributed systems that operate reliably at scale

• Develop platform capabilities that power CI/CD, testing, and developer workflows

Your work will directly impact how thousands of engineers build, test, and release software at eBay.

What You’ll Bring

• Strong programming fundamentals and system design skills

• Experience building microservices and distributed systems in production

• Experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot

• Experience building REST APIs and event-driven systems

• Frontend development experience (React preferred)

• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native systems

• Experience with Tekton and CI/CD systems is a plus

• Experience building testing or contract-testing frameworks is a plus

Strong ownership mindset, collaboration skills, and a passion for improving developer experience are essential.

Role Clarification

This is a Platform Engineering role requiring hands-on development of microservices, distributed systems, and frontend applications.

It is not a Quality Engineering (QE) or DevOps role. Engineers on this team own the systems they build end-to-end — including designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end, performance, and reliability). There are no separate QE roles within most teams at eBay; quality is built in and owned by the engineers developing the software.
