Department Overview

Innovation is the oxygen of our company, and in 2023, we invested more than US$850 million in research and development (R&D). We’re now opening a new Research & Development Centre in Cork, Ireland focused on designing software for the company’s comprehensive land mobile radio (LMR) portfolio, with plans for expansion across other technologies in the future.

Motorola Solutions’ ecosystem of technologies is centred on safety and security, with LMR representing a foundational core. The company has deployed more than 13,000 LMR networks worldwide, trusted by governments and enterprises for highly secure communications designed to work in the most extreme conditions. Who Are We 

We are the Design and Customer Experience Team, originating in the CTO and integrated throughout Motorola Solutions' businesses and strategies. We are user-focused and outcome-driven, identifying problems and creating solutions based on research and engagement with our customers.

Basic Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Passion for research-fueled rapid ideation

  • Holistic understanding of user experience design between hardware and software

  • Self-starter and a strong desire for team collaboration

  • Demonstrate compelling storytelling skills as well as a command of design thinking principles and best practices

  • Proficiency in Adobe CC, Sketch, InVision and other industry standard wireframing tools

  • Knowledge in prototyping tools preferred
     

Skills & impact

  • Mastery of UX process and toolkit; brainstorm, wireframe, prototype and design documentation.

  • Designs holistic experiences supporting big picture strategies and that fuel innovative projects driving the company's vision.

  • Uses frameworks and hypothesis-based approaches to deliver in high-velocity design sprints

  • 5+ years UX Design of experience

  • Experience working with Figma

Ownership

  • Tackles undefined, complex projects to capture and communicate crystal clear UX requirements via user stories. 

  • Estimate design effort for projects and prioritize them in design sprints

  • Leads projects independently from beginning to end and delivers successful designs based on user testing, research validation, and survey results. 

  • Owns and influences key design metrics to prioritize challenges/opportunities and validate design solutions.


Collaboration

  • Synthesizes multiple inputs and feedback from stakeholders into a cohesive approach

  • Drives alignment across stakeholders; Research, Engineers, Product Managers, Industrial designers via design rituals and presentation skills. 

  • Mentor junior designers and onboards others onto projects.
