Job Description:

The Senior Accountant, Corporate Accounting is a critical role within the Finance organization, responsible for the operation and execution of several key areas related to Dimensional Fund Advisor’s Corporate Accounting function. This position will be an individual contributor role, with core responsibilities ranging from the preparation of journal entries to the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and financial statement analysis. This role will be responsible for several areas across corporate accounting, including operating expenses, payroll, and accrued expenses. The individual in this role will build strong partnerships across Finance and across several departments. In addition, this role will have a significant degree of autonomy to plan, develop and partner with our Financial Systems team to execute on multiple productivity and automation initiatives within the corporate accounting function.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Accounting

· Responsibility for monthly general ledger closing activities, including the preparation of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

· Key areas of responsibility include compensation expenses, operating expenses, and accrued expenses, as well as the reconciliation of corresponding prepaid asset and accrued expense accounts.

· Technical areas of accounting include the administration of capitalized software development costs, requiring close collaboration with the Technology department and understanding of core technology applications.

· Oversight of the Company’s global accrual process, including financial and trend analysis, as well as partnership across departments to understand the nature of expense categories.

· Work closely with the Accounts Payable team to provide guidance on the coding of invoices, as well as technical assessments to determine whether a transaction should be accounted for as an operating expense or a capital expenditure.

· Responsibility for the review and approval of multiple reports and schedules that are inputs into executive reporting packages and distribution within the Finance department.

· Provide support as needed in the preparation of financial statements, as well as the coordination of the annual audit.

Process Improvement and Quality Management

· Develops and maintains cross- departmental partnerships, while presenting solutions to complex issues as they arise and recommending process/ system improvements.

· Continuous improvement of Corporate Accounting processes, including the automation of accounting and reporting processes.

· Develops, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

· Leads the team through the design and adoption of standard operating procedures and best practices within the accounting domain. Drives continuous business/process improvement and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline. CPA or CPA- eligible preferred, but not required in lieu of industry experience.

· 3+ years of relevant accounting experience. Big 4 experience preferred, but not required.

· Advanced Microsoft skills with ability to utilize multiple excel functions in order to analyze and process significant amounts of transaction data.

· Demonstrable ability or willingness to learn technical accounting areas such as capitalization of software development costs.

· Continuous learner and independent thinker.

· Ability to build key relationships within Finance and other professionals across the organization. Highly motivated, participative, and collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

· Demonstrated ability to handle confidential, sensitive, and non-public information with discretion.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Familiarity with an ERP application such as Oracle Cloud, preferred but not required.

· Technical ability required to be able to review, understand and administer financial terms within lease agreements into the financial records of the Company.
