Job Title: Lead Embrex                                                                              Job Grade:  7A

Position reports to:  Hatchery Manager                                                  Job Key: LEAD05

Location:  Wadesboro Hatchery                                 

Schedule:  Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule.  Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday beginning at 5:00 AM until job is complete. Typically these positions average 40 hours per week.  Hours are subject to change depending on the needs of the hatchery.

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating activates of the Embrex Crew. The Embrex Lead will ensure the Embrex machine is set up for inovoject process, transfer and operation of Embrex machine, ensure the following duties are complete properly:  mix of vaccine, transfer of eggs, clean racks, flats, buggies, Embrex machine and hallway used. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising Team Members on Embrex crew; plan, assign and direct work. (46%)
  • Mix Vaccine (10%)
  • Order vaccines.  (3%)
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain Lab and Lab Supplies (10%)
  • Address complaints and resolve problems of Embrex Department; complete paperwork.  (26%)
  • Help on Embrex machine; turn on formaldehyde using all necessary PPE.  (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering before entering the facility, could include multiple showers, changing into appropriate clothing and footwear provided by the facility. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). The company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times. Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:  Must be able to read, write and have simple math skills. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns. Production reports must be completed accurately and handwritten legibly and clearly, with good attention to detail ensuring cleanliness and biosecurity compliance.
  • Experience:  6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Will be trained to recognize and comply with all Core Safety Mandate procedures including Lock Out/Tag Out; Confined Spaces, and Fall Prevention Procedures.
  • TSA:  Must agree to submit to a Security Threat Assessment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds and may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds at times. While performing the duties, the Team Member is regularly required to stand for long periods of time on concrete floors; walk; sit; work on wet, slippery surfaces at times; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color and/or peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required:  Safety goggles, safety glasses and rubber boots are required.  Ear plugs and ear muffs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed, and may require Respirator Fit Test.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  Formaldehyde, Biogel, Tornaax, Virocid and 904.

General Sign Off:  The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies. Failure to perform this job to above standards could lead to progressive discipline up to and including termination. Qualified applicants must live within 50 miles of the Wadesboro, NC facility and must have at least one year of work experience with one employer over the past three years with no gaps in employment of over six months. (Exceptions are made for layoffs, attending school, or the birth of a child.).

Candidates with agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

This position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor in coordination of the daily responsibilities of the department by insuring the Supervisor’s instructions are communicated to the team members and carried out timely and correctly. This position will also monitor all equipment to insure it is working properly and notify the supervisor of any needed maintenance while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.
