Nissan’s Decherd, TN manufacturing plant is located approximately 85 miles southeast of Nashville, TN and 65 miles west of Chattanooga, TN along Interstate 24. The Powertrain Assembly plant is 1.1 million square feet and has an annual production capacity over 1 million engines. Nissan-Decherd’s engine assembly plant produces engines for the Nissan Altima, Maxima, Rogue, Frontier, Titan, Armada, Quest, Pathfinder, as well as several Infiniti vehicles. In addition to engine assembly, Nissan –Decherd also assembles the electric motor for the LEAF, Nissan’s 100% electric vehicle.

Duties will include but not limited to below:

  • Conducting Process Audits
  • Participating in Cycle-Time Reductions
  • Quality Driven Statistical Analysis
  • Traceability projects
  • Vision system implementation
  • Line Calls and issue resolution
  • Test cell troubleshooting
  • Defect mapping and recognition of engine processes
  • Automated Inspection processes
  • Robotics integration for part transfer
  • Die design
  • 3D fixture design and creation with advanced additive manufacturing technologies
  • Various Digital Acceleration projects (data analysis, monitoring, reporting, etc.)
  • 3D modeling software experience desired but not mandatory
  • CNC experience is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in automotive Manufacturing and advanced technology
  • Be able to function autonomously in a fast paced, dynamic environment along with reporting of findings and provide recommendations for countermeasures
  • Strong project management and organization skills are required
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as AutoCad
  • Must be able to work full time during term INCLUDING willingness to work paid overtime as required
  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings.
  • Classroom experience with test equipment: oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, multimeter, Vector CAN tools, and other PC based diagnostic tools
  • Emphasis in Machining & Forging
  • Data analytics or experience with Digital Acceleration topics
  • 3D modeling software experience desired but not mandatory
  • CNC experience is a plus


In order to qualify for this role, you must:

  • Enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Chemical Engineering
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Strong organization ability with keen attention to detail
  • Be self-motivated and willing to challenge yourself to develop your talents and skill sets
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
