JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Commercial Intern placement will gain handson experience across the Infectious Diseases portfolio within Abbotts Rapid Diagnostics Division in the UK. Working across both Marketing and Sales, the intern will support key brands within the upper and lower respiratory virus portfolio, including ID NOW (COVID19, Influenza A&B, Strep A, and RSV) and BinaxNOW (Legionella and Strep pneumoniae).

The role also offers exposure to a wider range of pointofcare diagnostic solutions and therapy areas, providing broad insight into how commercial strategy is executed in a fastevolving healthcare landscape.

This role sits within the Infectious Diseases business unit and plays a critical part in supporting crossfunctional collaboration across Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Regulatory, Government Affairs, and Supply Chain. Operating as part of a HighPerforming Team, the Commercial Intern will contribute to initiatives that drive customer engagement, brand adoption, sales performance, and market growth across primary care, secondary care, public health and private healthcare settings.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Marketing Support

  • Assist with the development and execution of marketing campaigns and materials

  • Contribute to product launch planning and go‑to‑market activities

  • Support content development for digital channels, events, and customer education

  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to inform strategic decision‑making

  • Work with brand leads to deliver aligned, insight‑driven commercial plans

Sales Support

  • Partner with the field sales team to support account engagement and activity tracking

  • Contribute to sales toolkit creation (presentations, collateral, objection‑handling resources)

  • Assist in preparing for customer meetings, workshops, conferences, and demonstrations

  • Analyse sales data and customer insights to identify opportunities for growth

  • Participate in cross‑functional pipeline reviews and strategic planning sessions

The Commercial Intern will lead and execute assigned initiatives with strong attention to detail, proactive problem‑solving, and flawless execution. The placement offers a unique opportunity to develop core commercial skills while making a meaningful contribution to infectious disease management across the UK.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Currently studying towards a Bachelors degree with preference given to those in the areas of Business/Marketing, Finance/Accounting or Sciences.

  • Excellent organisation, planning and project management ability

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Dynamic, proactive, business and results-focused

  • Analytical and data management skills, with ability to make sound commercial decision

  • Creative, resilient and agile individual with a can-do attitude that can respond to changing environments and use their initiative to make things happen
