Job Description

The Associate Director, Sales - Pain (Canada) will oversee one of the key geographic regions within the Canadian Pain Business Unit, which is preparing for the potential commercialization of a novel selective inhibitor of NaV1.8 in acute pain. This role is critical in driving regional sales performance, fostering a strong team culture aligned with Vertex values, and building strategic account relationships. The Associate Director will lead a team of 6-8 Pain Territory Account Managers and report to the Canadian Sales& Marketing Director for Pain Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing Regional Pain Territory Account Management team in Canada, including recruiting, retaining and developing top talent to drive results while upholding Vertex values.
  • Develop and execute clear business plans, metrics, and goals for the region, inspiring the team to deliver exceptional results.
  • Utilize data analytics and field insights to provide strategic guidance to Pain Territory Account Managers, ensuring alignment with business goals and a patient-first approach.
  • Oversee the development and execution of strategic account plans, supporting the team in securing formulary, pathway, and protocol placements within key Canadian institutions.
  • Build and maintain informed, long-term relationships with institutional accounts, understanding their interdependencies and strategic priorities within the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders, including the Canadian Pain Marketing Team, to shape strategies that drive regional performance.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, coaching team members to set and achieve goals that positively impact patient outcomes.
  • Partner compliantly with other field team members and headquarters colleagues to analyze customer needs, market dynamics, and trends, ensuring alignment with brand and portfolio objectives.
  • Drive team performance to achieve assigned forecasts through coaching, development, and cultivating a winning culture.
  • Uphold and model ethics, integrity, and compliance in all interactions, building trust with external stakeholders and supporting Vertex’s culture of compliance.

Required Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience:

    • Extensive experience in healthcare/biotech industry
    • Strong supervisory/management experience
    • Proven experience in hospital customer engagement, including leading institutional sales teams
    • Demonstrated expertise in strategic account management (SAM), with the ability to lead teams in navigating healthcare institutions and health systems to secure formulary management and pharmaceutical product review, gain product access, and influence key decision-makers and affiliated community prescribers.
    • Experience in driving the pull-through of inpatient formularies, protocols, pathways, and order sets within the healthcare landscape.
