As an Investment Manager – Caterpillar Venture Capital, you will play a critical role within Caterpillar’s business development organization, supporting efforts to bring outside innovation into the enterprise by way of strategic investments and collaborative partnerships. Based at Caterpillar’s corporate headquarters in Irving, TX, the position partners closely with senior leaders, innovation teams, and technical experts across all business units to execute high quality and strategically relevant investments into startups and funds in our industries. We are looking for a candidate with direct knowledge and experience of corporate venture capital best practices, direct and fund investments, and portfolio management while operating within a global diversified-industrial enterprise.

This role provides the opportunity to manage an existing portfolio of venture fund investments, sourcing and driving new fund and direct investments, and contribute directly to Caterpillar’s long-term innovation journey.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, coordinate and drive all activities related to Venture Capital Fund investments, manage an existing Limited Partnership portfolio of Venture Capital Fund investments, and support Senior Investment Managers with direct investment opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, counsel and other services to Senior Managers throughout the Venture Capital process and manage most aspects of the process including: VC Process stakeholder reviews and approvals, negotiations, financial analysis, due diligence, communication with fund managers, startup companies, other investors, and external advisors as needed under the leadership of the Senior Investment Manager.
  • Provide continued engagement with target companies post-investment through participation as a Board Member or Board Observer as needed.
  • Conduct market research within the venture capital investment thesis for advisory consultation to the business units and process partners on trends and other matters related to the VC space.
  • Lead discussions with the business units related to strategic intent, commercial opportunity and positioning of the VC investment within their overall strategic roadmap to ensure maximum value strategic value creation.

What You Have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in Corporate Venture Capital, with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting end‑to‑end investment activities, including opportunity evaluation, due diligence, portfolio management, stakeholder engagement, and strategic alignment with corporate growth objectives.
  • Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
  • Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and business plan materials.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Networking: Understanding of the business value of creating mutually beneficial relationships with individuals outside of incumbent's own organization and ability to generate productive relationships with internal and external partners that improve access to resources and expertise.
  • Due Diligence: Knowledge of objectives, principles, approaches and processes of due diligence; ability to perform due diligence tasks to meet business goals.

What Will Set You Apart:

The ideal candidate has the ability to leverage an existing network within the VC and CVC ecosystem to generate relevant dealflow and present investment opportunities contextually to key stakeholders inside Caterpillar’s business units. Prior experience of driving investments through corporate internal processes, presenting deal structures and strategic value to leadership teams, performing due diligence on investment targets, closing investments, and managing the resulting portfolio is essential. Measuring strategic value delivered to the business units along with calculating financial performance of investments are critical skills for this role.

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $238,680.00
