Senior Data Scientist - Commercial Drug Process Development

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will provide technical and project leadership while integrating information generated by cross functional teams in the advancement of digital systems and applied data science at Amgen. Responsibilities include:

  • Utilize advanced IS systems to improve drug product design by advancing data availability, leveraging historical information, analyzing large data sets, and performing statistical analysis.
  • Execute high priority objectives supporting the advancement of Drug Product Technologies’ Digital Lab infrastructure.
  • Work with lab staff to identify and implement digital opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and training of Drug Product Technology staff in the application of Data Science tools.
  • Represent functional area requirements for digital platform development in support of laboratory data systems.
  • Engage management in digital projects through progress reports and presentations
  • Act as a critical member of global cross-functional teams working effectively in a highly matrixed environment to drive change, increase efficiency, and foster strong relationships.
  • Author and review guideline documents, technical protocols, reports, procedures, and support responses to regulatory questions and audits in the context of digital systems.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Science Technology experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 8 years of Science Technology experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Science Technology experience OR
  • Master’s degree and 2 years of Science Technology experience OR
  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad data science skill sets (e.g. statistics, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML))
  • Demonstrated software development and/or software engineering skills
  • Coding experience in Python, R, and/or SQL preferred.
  • Expertise in development of complex reporting solutions from data wrangling to final visualizations
  • Familiarity with unit operations for oral and/or parenteral manufacturing (e.g. filling, filtration, mixing, etc.), specific scale-down model development, characterization, and scale-up
  • Familiarity with standard pharmaceutical laboratory testing techniques/equipment (e.g. HPLC)
  • Experience in electronic lab notebook systems
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic to bring transformative digitalization to the scientific community
  • Strong problem solving and effective cross-functional communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical abilities, including systems and design thinking
  • Exceptional ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
