Scope of work

This registered pharmacist maintains accountability for the supervision and operation of a specific area of expertise. Coordinates process improvement activities, resolves human resource issues, and assists with program development in area of accountability. Works with multiple medication automation systems.


 

Essential Functions

  • Interprets and screens physician orders for appropriate agent, dose, allergies, and potential drug interactions. Evaluates patients, orders appropriate laboratory tests, and interprets serum drug levels utilizing pharmacokinetic principles; provides physicians with dosage regimen recommendations to enhance therapeutic outcomes reduce patients risk and reduce the cost of drug therapy.
  • Compounds and dispenses medications for administration to patients. Enters orders in the computer and bills appropriately.
  • Provides appropriate supervision and direction to pharmacists, technicians, residents, interns, and other support personnel.
  • Responsible for human resource issues involving supervised staff; to include but not limited to, hiring, evaluations, corrective action, and updating job descriptions.
  • Develops and maintains standards for area of accountability and communicates those standards to the staff.
  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Spectrum Health specific requirements on a timely basis.
  • Provides education and counseling to patients / family / significant others / members of the health care team to optimize outcomes and appropriate use of medications.
  • Participates in process improvement activities. Continuously monitors quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency in area of accountability and identifies trends. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation / compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD ) from an accredited school of pharmacy Required.
  • Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ year of related supervisory experience   Required
  • Pharmacy leadership experience Preferred.
  • MI License Clinical Pharmacist Required.
  • MI License Pharmacist Controlled Substance Required.
  • AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required.
