The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Tax Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic Finance team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Tax Manager and various business units to ensure timely and accurate compliance with regulatory, reporting, and tax obligations. Your responsibilities will include preparing GST and fringe benefit tax returns, supporting income tax return preparations, and assisting with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements. You will also play a key role in financial accounting processes, external audits, and the improvement of tax-related processes and controls.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax skills, preferably within the Financial Services industry, and a solid understanding of NZIFRS. You should have a proven ability to manage financial data, identify and resolve discrepancies, and communicate complex tax matters effectively. Your organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret and analyze complex information will be crucial in supporting our compliance and reporting functions. Additionally, you will be expected to champion the implementation of emerging tax technologies and promote innovation through process automation.
With over three years of experience in NZ taxation, tax reporting, and compliance, you will bring a high level of professionalism, integrity, and relationship-building skills to the role. A tertiary qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or Law, along with certification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA, is highly desirable. This role offers a full-time day rate contract and embraces flexible working arrangements. You'll have the freedom to work remotely, with occasional office attendance required on an ad hoc basis, ensuring a harmonious balance between business needs and personal flexibility.

Technical tax skills and knowledge, preferably within the Financial Services industry
General technical accounting (NZIFRS) skills and knowledge
Proven ability to understand financial systems and management of financial data
High attention to detail and the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies and provide risk adjusted solutions
Ability to interpret and analyse complex information, extract meaningful insights, and evaluate options for decision making
Excellent communication skills to communicate complex tax matters in a pragmatic manner
Strong organisational and self-management skills
Good understanding of emerging tax technology and enthusiasm to champion implementation
Challenge norms and promote innovation through standardisation and automation.
Professionalism and conviction to escalate issues appropriately
Good relationship skills, including the ability to work with various internal and external partners to achieve business objectives
A high level of honesty and integrity in all dealings
Ability to manage competing resources and demands
Ideal Experience
Over 3 years of experience in a role covering NZ taxation, tax reporting and compliance
Experience working in a large commercial environment, preferably within the finance, investment or insurance industry
Tertiary qualification in Commerce (Accounting, Taxation, Finance) and/or Law
Certification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA – highly desirable
