Job Description

We are seeking an experienced tax professional that will play a key role in U.S. Bank’s tax organization. This leader will be responsible overseeing the indirect tax function at U.S. Bancorp including personal property tax and sales and use tax. The position requires providing tax technical and risk mitigation support and will collaborate across Business Lines and support functions at U.S. Bank. This person will also be responsible for audit management and monitoring legislative and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities:

The Director, Indirect Tax will be responsible for leading and managing U.S. Bancorp’s Indirect Tax function, including but not limited to:

  • Lead a team of 45 tax professionals responsible for indirect tax accounting, risk management, and compliance.
  • Provide leadership to manage the US sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST and US personal property tax compliance to ensure accurate and timely filings and payments.
  • Manage U.S. indirect tax audits and responses to notices from tax authorities.
  • Monitor emerging indirect tax legislative changes and trends, model potential impacts, and communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Engage business leaders and provide input on the indirect tax implications of business strategies and transactions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on indirect tax issues (Business Lines, Accounts Payable, Procurement, IT).
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to reduce the corporate tax burden for indirect taxes.
  • Lead efforts to improve, automate and streamline indirect tax compliance and reporting processes and workflow.
  • Participate in a cross functional team on technology transformation initiatives to ensure the needs of indirect tax team are properly identified and implemented.
  • Work with and manage relationships with external advisors as necessary.
  • Additional tax-related tasks as needed.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • CPA and/or MBT a plus
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. sales/use tax laws and regulations
  • Strong knowledge in property tax
  • Experience managing and developing other individuals
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong quantitative and qualitative
  • Strong tax technical skills including the ability to analyze and calculate the tax consequences of proposed transactions and legislative changes
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and purpose-led and values driven leader
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across the various groups within the business organization including legal, accounting, finance, operations, etc.
  • Experience working with and managing relations with external advisors
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $165,325.00 - $194,500.00 - $213,950.00
