The Canadian Actuarial Project Manager supports the successful delivery of segment initiatives that affect the Canadian segment’s IFRS 17/9 financial reporting. This role collaborates closely with Group and segment stakeholders (including actuarial valuation, accounting, multiple IT teams, and the business) to deliver low‑risk solutions for the quarterly reporting process.

As a motivated self‑starter, you will build a deep understanding of the end‑to‑end reporting cycle and represent the Canadian reporting team on segment-level initiatives. You will ensure changes to the financial reporting process are properly implemented across relevant lines of business by working with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements, document them, facilitate prioritization, and track execution of agreed solutions impacting the reporting process.

Success in this role requires operating independently with minimal guidance and using exceptional communication skills to drive cross‑functional collaboration and deliver mutually beneficial solutions. Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead our Affinity Markets Strategic Initiatives by:

    • Understanding the actuarial reporting needs and translating into IT requirements.

    • Bridge the communication gap between the IT team and the reporting teams.

    • Monitor the development and testing of initiatives as they move towards final implementation ensuring compliance with change control procedures.

  • Lead and contribute to segment initiatives aligning with Manulife’s strategy across all phases from a financial reporting perspective, with an actuarial focus.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of accountability and take full ownership of all aspects of the role.

  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset – ask thoughtful questions, challenge the status quo, and drive mutually beneficial solutions with long term view.

  • Maintain a strong risk-based mindset ensuring that solutions are designed with controls and risk-mitigation.

  • Maintain ongoing engagement with business partners to clarify scope, align priorities, and refine requirements and advocate for their needs at the segment level.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in the financial service industry with experience in financial reporting. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, actuarial science, finance, or equivalent work experience.

  • Superior written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven success managing projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to analyze complex situations quickly and appreciate the balance between business needs, system constraints and risk implications.

  • Strong desire to learn and engage with finance reporting subject matter experts to expand knowledge and effectively advocate for the end-to-end financial reporting teams.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with a proven ability to manage competing priorities while demonstrating sound judgment.

  • Innovative thinker with ability to influence and negotiate with management at various levels of the organization.

  • Motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively.

  • A collaborative team player with a proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and adapt positively to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management certification would be an asset.

Salary range is expected to be between

$85,300.00 CAD - $135,300.00 CAD
