Advanced Practice Nurse – Cardiovascular Oncology

Advocate Christ Medical Center | Oak Lawn, IL

Advocate Christ Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to join our growing Cardio‑Oncology program. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cardiology and oncology, partnering closely with a highly engaged physician and multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional, patient‑centered care.

Position Highlights:

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    No nights, weekends, or call
  • Practice Setting: Primarily ambulatory (90–100%), with minimal inpatient responsibilities based on physician support needs
  • Location: Advocate Christ Medical Center with occasional travel to South Chicagoland off‑site clinics to support program growth

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and follow a specialized cardio‑oncology patient population, with some overlap into advanced heart failure management
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient education
  • Collaborate closely with Cardiology and Oncology teams to ensure coordinated, high‑quality care across the continuum
  • Support both clinic‑based care and inpatient rounding/consults as needed
  • Participate in the continued development and expansion of a growing cardio‑oncology program

  • Experience or strong interest in cardiology, oncology, or heart failure management
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to build patient relationships
  • Passion for continuity of care and working across specialties

Pay Range

$54.90 - $82.35

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage treatment plans appropriate for patient age, acuity, and condition.

  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies; prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.

  • Manage conditions using evidence-based care, cost-effectiveness, and risk-benefit analysis.

  • Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and patient/family education.

  • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team; escalate care when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR; ensure compliant coding and billing.

  • Facilitate coordinated care and clear communication among healthcare team members.

  • Perform office procedures within granted privileges and competency.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in quality, safety, and performance initiatives.

  • Support onboarding and education of new team members and students.

  • Maintain and advance clinical skills through ongoing education.

  • Meet standards for productivity, access, and quality metrics.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care principles.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Licensure: Active RN and APRN license(s) in state(s) of practice

  • Certification: National board certification in clinical practice area

  • DEA Registration: Active prior to hire

  • Illinois Practice: Active Illinois Controlled Substance License

  • Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS (within 6 months of hire)

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing

  • Experience: No prior experience required

  • High level of clinical proficiency and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency with EMR and evolving technology.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist throughout the day.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; carry up to 40 lbs.

  • Functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
