Job Summary

The Physical Security Specialist supports the design and implementation of security measures to safeguard people, property, and assets within the organization. This role focuses on assisting in physical security projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and contributing to the successful implementation of security technology solutions. The Specialist also participates in physical security assessments and supports the training of security personnel.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Assists in physical security projects under the guidance of management and/or senior specialists.
  • Participates in site walk-throughs with physical security management, provides input on security designs and scopes of work, and collaborates with vendors, project managers, general contractors, and key business partners.
  • Works closely with program manager(s) to support project milestones, provides updates, and contributes to the successful implementation of security technology solutions.
  • Supports the operation, deployment, and maintenance of physical security systems, including access control platforms, video wall systems, video management systems, and physical badge credentials.
  • Assists in the installation and servicing of various security systems, such as AMAG, Lenel, Genetec, Salient, Axis Communications, and other relevant systems.
  • Participates in physical security assessments to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Assists in providing training to security personnel on the use of access control, video management, and detection systems.
  • Supports the acquisition and maintenance of necessary system certifications.
  • Performs assigned duties and tasks in accordance with instructions from senior specialists and management.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret engineering and construction drawings, specifications, and relevant documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, computer programming, and relevant installation practices.
  • Ability to assist in analyzing and troubleshooting electronic systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English technical language, including the ability to understand requirements and contribute to reports.
  • Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibits professionalism, integrity, and good judgment in all interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Basic writing and editing skills to support the preparation of work products.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with accuracy.
  • Developing organizational skills to support project coordination and management.
  • Aptitude for analyzing risks, identifying control weaknesses, and providing recommendations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to gather and analyze data, draw conclusions, and contribute to reports and findings.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in an area of study relevant to this position (i.e., Security Management, Homeland Security, Engineering, Information Technology, etc.)

Related Work Experience

  • Generally, requires two plus years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification or accreditation that validates expertise and knowledge in the field of physical security such as: Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Security Management Professional (CSMP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Physical Security Certified Professional (PSCP), or Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP) is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s), and overtime, as necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%-40%.
