Pure Storage is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive and manage all mechanical aspects for our DirectFlash Modules (DFMs), storage devices.  The candidate must be detail oriented and interested in designing in house with minimal guidance.  He/she will also be working with JDMs to design-in, test, and integrate our DFMs into new storage systems.  

SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...

  • Lead all aspects of in house drive designs on mechanical and thermal
  • Design next generation DFMs along with standard form factors
  • Support new system designs with ODM/JDM to use DFMs, support CAD/thermal models, reviewing drive slot designs, along with mechanical and thermal designs.
  • Work with Hardware Engineers to design circuit boards that properly trade off cost, power, airflow, and cooling.
  • Create test plans for internal designs and review ODM/JDM test plans for interop with DFMs
  • With with Product Engineering on DFx, soft/hard tooling, design tradeoffs
  • Lead mechanical testing (temperature, humidity, altitude, shock, vibration, airflow, package) in house and with outside vendor
  • Own mechanical designs from concept to sustaining. 
  • Work with cross functional teams (HW, Product, Quality, SW, Test, Certification, Operations) to meet program deliverables

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years in a related product design roles
  • 3D CAD experience with ProE/Creo Parametric or equivalent
  • FloTherm modeling and correlation experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal, die cast, plastic injection molding, thermal, heatsink, thermal interface material, and airflow design.
  • Hands-on experience with detail sheet metal/plastic/die-cast/extrusion design and prototyping
  • Experience with CAD, tolerance analysis, thermal tradeoffs, DFx
  • Track record of delivering high quality, high volume electronics
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Can do attitude is a must

We are a primarily in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work in the Santa Clara office at least four days per week, unless you are on PTO,  or work travel, or other approved leave. The annual base salary range is: $140,000-$211,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location.
