About the Role
Join us as Head of Private Assets at AIA Investment Management!
The main objectives of this position are to oversee the investment strategy, management, and performance of private assets in IM which includes:
1. Private Equity & Venture Capital
2. Real Estate
3. Private Debt
5. Other Alternative Investments
Our private asset investments have matured and developed over the last 3 years. We now have a large successful program in committed assets across 3 private sub strategies: - Private Equity-VC, Private Credit and Real Estate which have been run separately until now. The program is large, but also increasingly complex, with different GPs and underlying funds. This complexity will only increase as the program matures, particularly considering increasing levels of co-investments as well as the move towards more segregated accounts for new commitments.
This new position will oversee and coordinate the overall program. Reporting to AIAIM CIO, this role will deliver an overall clear strategy and focus on robust implementation across the entire private program to ensure ongoing strong delivery of performance. The role will ensure we have the right strategy in place, the most efficient operating model & implementation and finally, the right systems setup across Aladdin and E- Front to ensure we can provide all stakeholders with the reporting transparency on the program that they require.
The role is expected to drive people management and leadership development for these teams and also work seamlessly with Group Investment, Business Units and AIAIM to achieve its objectives and manage communications with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- The role will focus on coordinating across the 3 sub strategies with both the existing IM asset class heads (PE/VC/PC/RE) as well as the Regional Asset class heads and HK teams.
- Manage and construct outsourced private portfolios, from idea generation/fund selection to investment due diligence and portfolio construction, to meet the portfolio’s overall risk and return targets.
- Provide regular analysis and assessment of the portfolios, including regular manager review, including where needed to develop tools and reports to manage risk and performance.
- Build research expertise and in conjunction with AIAIM Head of MO to develop analytical tools to support decision making.
- Actively contribute to the Group’s investment process to aid formulation of an outlook on global markets.
- Report portfolio performance and attribution to LBU CIO and stakeholders.
- Be both a team player and a coach/mentor for the other members in the investment teams.
Requirements
- At least 20 years of investment experience with large complex multi asset funds such as pension and insurance funds at both the top-down mandate construction and setting level as well as the bottom-up portfolio implementation.
- Strong expertise in all aspect of private markets
- Outstanding technical proficiency, understanding of investment strategies and their implications, as well as implementation and value enhancement strategies.
- Strong system and operational understanding across all aspects of private asset investments with experience in transition management
- Strong knowledge of Aladdin/E Front is an advantage.
- Experience working with or in an Insurance AMC.
- Excellent interpersonal and engagement skills
- Exceptional reputation as a team player.
