The Opportunity

This position is based at our Ottawa, Ontario office within the Point of Care, division. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.

What You’ll Do

We're searching for a highly motivated science or engineering student, preferably with a background in data analysis or medical diagnostics function and design, to join the R&D Research team at Abbott Point of Care Canada. The successful candidate will assist with early-stage design decisions, characterization, analysis, and correlation of reagent design and performance.  There may also be opportunities to shape product attributes such as risk and platform documentation. 

Required Qualifications

• Full-time registration in an undergraduate BSc / BASc degree program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering (3rd or 4th year preferred)

• Hands-on laboratory experience, including designing, executing and documenting experiments and studies

• Fast learner with a willingness/ability to innovate and problem solve

• Able to work independently and in a team environment

• Minimum GPA of B+ or equivalent

• Strong verbal and written communication/documentation skills

• Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

• Knowledge of math and statistics, strong computer skills, knowledge of statistical software programs such as SAS JMP or Minitab is an asset

• Knowledge of electrochemical sensors and detection is an asset 

• Four-month term

The hourly salary for this position ranges from $19.00 to $25.00 CAD. The salary range provided applies to Canada only and does not apply to any other locations outside of Canada.
