AIG is seeking an experienced Chief Auditor who will build a progressive audit team within AIG.  They will deliver exceptional expertise, consultation, and direction in all areas related to enterprise-wide audit.

Reporting to the CFO, the Chief Auditor is a member of the Finance Leadership Team and will oversee a global team. This leader will also serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, the AIG Executive Committee, and have accountability to the AIG Board of Directors.  

A proven expert in audit; bringing a viewpoint is essential. This leader will design, inspire, and actively communicate changes ahead. In addition to expertise and proven thought leadership, this leader will be both a strategic visionary and execution oriented.  Execution and accountability are highly valued at AIG.  They will need to:

  • Leverage deep domain expertise in finance, internal audit, risk and controls to help build a proactive and integrated audit program.
  • Be accountable for seeing the "big picture" – leveraging best-in-class programs with on the ground execution and alignment.
  • Be a valued, trusted, hands on partner, working directly with the business leaders to deliver on business strategies and plans.
  • Partner closely with the CEO, CFO, senior leadership, business leaders, and other colleagues to align programs, processes, systems and metrics with organizational goals.
  • Build relationships and ensure ongoing support and buy-in to enable the roll-out and success of various programs. 
  • Ensure what is built, can be delivered, infused into the businesses, and ultimately measured by outcomes. Executing measurable change is critical.
  • Act as a champion of various AIG initiatives such as promoting our shared purpose and values, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and career development ideals.
  • Provide strong leadership in a global, highly matrixed organization going through significant change. Lead, mentor, and develop colleagues, making the best and highest use of talent while fostering a culture of collaboration.

Responsibilities

Bring together technical expertise in auditing and risk management with strong leadership, communication, and strategic skills to effectively navigate the complexities of regulatory landscape and ensure organizational compliance and operational excellence.

  • Audit Strategy and Planning:  Developing and implementing audit strategies aligned with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements.  Align audit strategies with organizational goals and industry trends, anticipating future challenges and opportunities.
  • Risk Assessment: Identifying and assessing risks related to operations, financial reporting, compliance, and fraud. Analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and propose practical solutions to mitigate risks and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Internal Audit Oversight: Directing internal audit activities to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes, and risk management frameworks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards through comprehensive audits and reviews.
  • Reporting and Communication: Presenting audit findings, recommendations, and insights to senior management and the board of directors to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Continuous Improvement: Driving continuous improvement initiatives based on audit findings to enhance operational efficiency, mitigate risks, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with stakeholders across the organization, including risk, compliance, and legal teams, to foster a culture of compliance and risk awareness.
  • Ethical Standards and Governance: Upholding high ethical standards and promoting a strong culture of governance, transparency, and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Emerging Risks and Trends: Staying updated on emerging risks, industry trends, and regulatory changes to proactively address potential challenges and opportunities; evolve best practices as needed.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with audit management software, data analytics tools, and emerging technologies used in auditing processes (e.g., AI-driven analytics, robotic process automation).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in internal auditing, external auditing, or a combination of both is preferred.
  • Experience in global, complex organizations; experience in a regulated industry is preferred but not required.
  • Leadership during times of change and transformation.
  • Ability to serve on the leadership team and act as a valued advisor and counselor to executive leadership, including the CEO. Experience working with a public company Board of Directors is a plus.
  • Analytical skills with sharp business acumen, strong leadership, and a bias toward action; Risk management expertise and background in risk frameworks, methodologies, and practices.
  • Experience working in both global and publicly traded companies, with complicated financial and intercompany structures.
  • Proven success in working directly with business leadership and global teams to implement solutions while balancing priorities.
  • Ability to be both practical and aspirational by scoping, defining and planning realistic but aggressive delivery expectations in conjunction with stakeholders.
  • Active engagement with strategic plans, business, process and architecture while influencing design and the development of solutions.
  • Experience designing, staffing, and building high-performance teams and leading those teams through dynamic business cycles.

For positions based in New York, the base salary range is $325,000 - $475,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
