The Opportunity
Our location in Lake Forest, IL or San Diego, CA currently has an opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Design for Manufacturing. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth transition from R&D concept to future production of next-generation instrumentation and assays. The Sr. Manager will leverage multidisciplinary engineering and technical knowledge to ensure future manufacturing success aligned with key launch criteria.
What You'll Do
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts, work with design engineers and contract manufacturers/suppliers to optimize components and manufacturing processes so that high quality parts are consistently delivered.
- Provide engineering oversight, support and consultancy to suppliers and internal partners on process validations, design for manufacture (DFM), material selection, and process development.
- Works cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Regulatory and other departments as needed to ensure effective new product transitions into production.
- Review, understand and incorporate technical design risk assessments into the part/system evaluation process.
- Anticipates and resolve highest level issues and conflicts that could impact future operational success. Assess alternatives and develop a recovery plan based on associated risks.
- Lead the technical aspects of Problem Solving, Failure Analysis, and Corrective and Preventative Actions. Promote a culture of structured problem solving.
- Provide technical leadership support to product cost optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support in failure analysis, re-design and drawing updates for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns.
- Travel to contract manufacturers/supplier sites as necessary.
- Provide input into long-range planning and capacity analysis.
- Has a broad knowledge of technical alternatives and an understanding of their impact on the systems environment.
- Cultivates a wide range of internal and external network of resources to achieve strategic outcomes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum 12 years progressively responsible work experience in a high-volume, multi-product manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device/diagnostic industry.
- Significant experience leading and implementing lean manufacturing, DFM, process validation and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Solid knowledge of GMP and ISO regulations.
Preferred
- Master’s degree Preferred.
- 2 years in design transfer or product transfers with contract manufacturers suppliers

The base pay for this position is
$125,300.00 – $250,700.00
