As a Storeroom Clerk, you play a key role in the nutritional needs and safety of our patients. Your primary duties will include:  

Receiving all food and supplies that pertain to the Food and Nutrition Department. 

Filling all orders from other departments.  

Maintaining a clean and sanitized work area.

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving/Storing: Receives food and supplies from vendor adhering to proper procedures (counts, sorts, weighs and checks temperatures as appropriate).
  • Checks all items for damage or unacceptable goods - return to vendor.
  • Puts away all food supplies in proper areas for storage.
  • Rotates items according to FIFO rule. Dates and labels all items as necessary.
  • Takes inventories correctly and reports all shortages to manager.
  • Issues supplies and fills orders accurately.
  • Cleaning/Sanitation: Keeps coolers and storage areas clean and sanitized - correct solutions and products.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment that meets the safety and sanitation requirements of the department as well as those of local, state and federal agencies.
  • Completes daily cleaning assignments and initials schedule upon completion.
  • Mops kitchen floor as assigned, using sweep and mop procedure and sanitizing solution, according to JCAHO and HACCP standards.
  • Trayline: Accurately sets up the trayline with correct food and utensils.
  • Follows infection control standards at all times (i.e. gloves, hairnet) Prepares patient trays accurately and in a highly presentable manner.
  • Follows tray garnish rotation.
  • Follows set-up diagrams.
  • Maintains trayline speed of 3-4 rays per minute.
  • Completes set up of trayline area prior to start of trayline.
  • Properly "breaks down", sanitizes and restocks trayline stations according to department procedures. Ensures all food items are covered, labeled, dated, and returned to correct areas.
  • Takes equipment and utensils during service time to correct ware washing area for proper cleaning.
  • Dishroom/Pots: Demonstrates correct use of all cleaning supplies.
  • Understands three (3) compartment cleaning method.
  • Maintains and records temperatures on dish machine, pot and pan sink and pot and pan machine.
  • Maintains a steady work pace to produce an adequate supply of clean kitchen utensils, dishes, flatware and pots and pans.
  • Demonstrates proper handling, storage and transportation of utensils, pots and pans and flatware and dishes.
  • Maintains and clears cafeteria return belt to the dishroom.
  • Runs dish machine according to schedule.
  • Trash Removal: Removes trash and garbage from designated areas and takes to compactor room.
  • Cleans garbage can after emptying.
  • Breaks down all boxes and takes to compactor room.
  • Cleans compactor room after spillage if necessary.
  • Floor Supplies/Tube Feeding: Fills floor supplies according to requests for assigned areas.
  • Makes sure that milk and dairy products are not left out for more than 10 minutes prior to pick up and delivery.
  • Checks to be sure all food and beverage items are properly labeled and dated.
  • If items are found to be past expiration date, they are discarded.
  • Delivers Tube Feeding Products as required for assigned areas.
  • Completes floor supply sheets in a timely manner (keeping track of all items issued) and gives to supervisor/team leader at the end of each shift.
  • Communications: Accepts assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  • Accepts accountability for information contained for information contained in the employee handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Works well with others and alone.
  • Able to work different shifts.
  • Capable of reading and writing simple information and material.
  • Basic math ability.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • One to two years food service receiving experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to frequently push/pull carts weighing up to 350 lbs. Able to twist, stoop, bend and squat.
  • Exposed to a wide range of air temperatures, from hot (95degrees) to cold (-20 degrees).
  • Adept to working with or around equipment.
  • Must be able to tolerate high places.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
