Salary range: £60,000 to £75,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Leatherhead, Bristol, Burton or Manchester. Other UK offices may be considered.
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office and working from home.

The UK Regional Trade Controls Lead is responsible for leading the UK Trade & Export Controls function across Frazer‑Nash/KBR, ensuring the effective implementation of the UK trade compliance programme and the consistent integration of policies and procedures into business operations in line with company strategy and growth plans. Reporting functionally to KBR’s Director of Trade Compliance, with matrix reporting to the Frazer‑Nash Legal Director, the role works closely with the KBR International Trade Controls Office (ITCO) to ensure compliance with company‑wide requirements, including sanctions, due‑diligence screening, and export authorisations. The position reviews proposed projects to identify export control obligations and authorises progression subject to formal written clearance conditions, while overseeing technology transfers, record‑keeping, internal audits, and compliance assurance. The role engages senior leadership and external stakeholders, delivers expert guidance and training, and ensures the business remains informed of relevant regulatory developments and compliance best practice.
Export Licensing, Authorisations & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure controlled technology, software, and products are exported from the UK in full compliance with applicable export control laws, supported by the correct export licences and government authorisations.
Maintain detailed oversight of export control regulations across all applicable jurisdictions, including UK, US, EU, and Australia, and proactively communicate regulatory changes to relevant stakeholders.
Manage and oversee the submission of export licence applications, classification requests, commodity jurisdiction requests, advisory opinion requests, and UK Private Venture (PV) Grading applications for technologies, software, and products.
Liaise directly with UK and international government authorities to clarify regulatory requirements, interpret approvals, and expedite licence applications where required.
Oversee the classification of items, technical data, technology, and services, and determine whether proposed transactions are prohibited or require export licences or other government authorisations.
Manage export requirements applicable to business travellers, including the controlled transfer of technology and data.
Oversee and ensure compliance with all export authorisations applicable to UK programmes, including ITAR and EAR, US Department of Energy, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Australian Export Control Act and its regulatory framework.
Prepare and monitor the use of export licence exceptions and exemptions, ensuring fully documented justification.
Communicate and enforce the Company’s export compliance record‑retention policy.
Apply a working knowledge of Australian export compliance regulations (desirable).
Business Processes, Governance & Procedures
Ensure business processes fully capture Trade and Export Control requirements and are updated to reflect ongoing regulatory developments.
Maintain and update the Export Compliance Manual to reflect changes in regulations, organisational responsibilities, and personnel.
Project Approvals, Reviews & Clearances
Review proposed projects, master agreements, joint ventures, and follow‑on work to identify export control considerations and authorise progression subject to formal compliance conditions.
Review and approve new business opportunities involving overseas participation, including Simplified New Pursuit forms at both Proposal and Execution stages.
Support the review, drafting, and negotiation of export compliance clauses in contracts.
Oversee denied‑party screening and due‑diligence processes for programmes and business partners.
Training, Awareness & Culture
Promote a strong export compliance culture by developing, delivering, and maintaining training materials, inductions, and sector‑specific briefings to ensure employees understand regulatory obligations and practical compliance tools.
Champion company values and foster a safe, inclusive, and continuously improving working environment.
Audits & Assurance
Facilitate UK Government audits across relevant legal entities as required.
Support the UK regional export compliance audit programme, including verification of record‑keeping and adherence to company procedures.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Where required, engage customers and subcontractors to provide high‑level export control guidance and ensure compliance across the supply chain.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, customers, and government bodies.
Experience Required:
Extensive knowledge of international Trade and Export Control Regulations and Sanctions, gained from working in the defence, nuclear and other dual-use sectors
Comprehensive knowledge of UK, Australian & US export laws and regulations (e.g. ITAR and EAR, the US Department of Energy and US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Australian Export Control Act and its regulatory framework)
Extensive experience implementing and managing trade compliance programmes
Experience of MoD processes (E.g. F680, F1686, PV Grading)
Comprehensive understanding of business processes, continuous improvement, and their interaction with Trade and Export Control requirements
Excellent relationships with the relevant Government Departments and other relevant Trade bodies
Proficient team management skills
Skilled in interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact at all levels within the company
Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
