Your Impact

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Analyst to join our corporate tax team. This position will assist our indirect tax team with many facets of indirect tax in the U.S including sales & use tax, federal excise tax, property tax, exemption certificate management and business licenses. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in the indirect tax space, with a strong focus on sales tax, use tax, excise tax, gross receipts tax, and/or tax exemption certificates.

Your Day to Day

  1. Tax Exemption Certificates:
    1. Manage and maintain tax exemption certificates for customers for US, Canada, and Federal excise tax.
  1. Conduct research and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on a variety of indirect tax exemption matters.
  2. Ensure proper documentation and compliance with exemption certificate requirements, and close communication with the internal stakeholders to support quoting and tax compliance timely.

 

  1. Tax Compliance & Reporting:
    1. Prepare and gather business license filing requirements and manage 3rd party compliance provider, including payments and filing calendar.
    2. Support monthly sales tax, use tax, excise tax, and gross receipts tax returns compliance.
    3. Compile and analyze data necessary for the preparation of various tax returns.
    4. Ensure compliance with all state and local tax regulations.
    5. Gather information and respond to document requests from taxing authorities
  1. Tax Reconciliation & Analysis:
    1. Prepare reconciliations of general ledger accounts related to indirect taxes.
    2. Analyze tax data to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
    3. Assist in the resolution of tax notices and audit inquiries.

 

  1. Tax Automation & Process Improvement:
    1. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax compliance.
    2. Stay up to date with the latest tax automation tools and technologies.
  2. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    1. Work closely with the accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
    2. Provide indirect tax expertise and support to other departments as needed.
    3. Assist in special projects related to tax planning, audits, and system implementations.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  2. 1-3 years of experience in indirect tax, including sales tax, use tax, excise tax, and/or gross receipts tax.
  3. Experience in tax automation software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, or similar).
  4. Strong knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  5. Understanding of tax reconciliation processes and general ledger accounts.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  7. Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development in the tax field.
  8. Must be a self-starter with an eagerness to learn and collaborate
  9. Driven to deliver quality results on time, with a high degree of integrity and in a highly ethical and professional manner.
  10. Detail oriented, effective time management, and organizational skills.
  11. Must demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with tax exemption certificate management.
  2. Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., D365) and their integration with tax software.

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 57,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 91,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
