Job Summary:

The Data Steward is responsible for the management, oversight, and protection of the organization’s data assets. This role ensures that data is accurate, accessible, and secure, supporting business processes, decision-making, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Data Steward will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Quality and Integrity:

  • Monitor and ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data across systems.
  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to maintain data integrity.
  • Identify data quality issues, root causes, and drive initiatives for resolution and prevention.

2. Data Governance:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies, standards, and practices.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and other documentation to support data governance.
  • Collaborate with data owners, data custodians, and IT teams to ensure alignment with governance policies.

3. Data Security and Compliance:

  • Ensure that data handling complies with relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  • Monitor access controls and data usage to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Work with legal and compliance teams to manage data-related risks.

4. Data Lifecycle Management:

  • Oversee the data lifecycle, including data creation, storage, usage, archival, and deletion processes.
  • Define and enforce retention policies to manage data storage and ensure timely disposal of obsolete data.

5. Data Stewardship and Education:

  • Serve as the point of contact for data stewardship within the organization.
  • Provide guidance and support to departments on data management best practices.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to promote data literacy and proper data handling procedures.

6. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with data analysts, data engineers, business users, and IT to address data needs and challenges.
  • Communicate data governance initiatives and updates to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure data consistency and standardization.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improving data management processes and tools.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulations related to data management.
  • Participate in data governance councils or committees to contribute to the ongoing development of the organization’s data strategy.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s, MBA) is a plus.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in data management, data governance, data quality, or related roles.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of data management principles and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Certifications (Optional):

  • Certified Data Steward (CDS)
  • Data Management Professional (CDMP)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

The base pay range for this role is $90,100 to $138,750 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only).  Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
