The Position

As the Director Human Resources for Caterpillar’s Legal, Security & Public Policy Division (LSPP), you’ll provide people-focused solutions to enhance our business strategy and talent focus. This role provides communications, HR, and talent support globally across multiple locations and functions including Legal, Security and Global Government & Corporate Affairs.  You will lead three direct reports and will support a professional employee base of approximately 600.  You will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with senior management as a strategic advisor helping identify and prioritize HR initiatives that align with the organization's strategic goals and objectives.

  • Align HR policies and programs to promote employee engagement, retention, and performance.

  • Serve as a trusted coach providing guidance to leaders and managers on HR-related matters, including but not limited to performance management, talent sourcing, skills development, compensation, and benefits.

  • Analyze HR metrics and data to identify trends and opportunities and develop a story to provide data-driven recommendations to senior management.

  • Lead a team to collaborate effectively with other Centers of Excellence and serve as thought leaders to the business and HR.

  • Lead, support, and influence the design and change management approach of talent-focused change efforts impacting highly matrixed lines of business.

What you will bring:

  • Decision-Making and Critical Thinking Abilities: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Ability to Influence: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.

  • Leadership Experience: Knowledge of leadership practices and processes; ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives while having a long-term perspective of the future state of things and how to get there.

  • Talent Management Experience: Knowledge of how an organization attracts, recruits, retains, identifies and develops talent; ability to develop the talent required for an organization to achieve its short-term and long-term goals.

Additional experience:

  • Prior HR experience supporting a corporate law department or legal firm is a plus.
