The Role
CAA is seeking a Junior Analyst to support a Contract Administration Executive in the Books and Publishing department. The position is part of a small team that works to ensure accuracy in Publisher reporting of sales and royalty earnings on behalf of clients and Agent colleagues and to use this same reporting for insights into project performance and trend analysis.
The ideal candidate has a passion for book publishing, financial models and deal structures, is a self-starter, and possesses a desire to gain a deep understanding of books contracts and the mechanics of the publishing business. This role is not for candidates seeking the literary Agent career path.
Responsibilities:
Collect and maintain a high volume of publishing documents in organized files for prompt access
Fulfill colleague and client requests for documents quickly and accurately
Read and analyze publisher royalty statements and calculate royalties to ensure they reflect agreed contractual terms
Provide timely summaries of client royalty statements, sales and earnings, and value on request
Research author publication and contract licensing history including domestic subsidiary rights and global and international translation rights
Assist with special client, buyer, research and trend projects on request and as needed at peak volume
Leverage data to develop new insights and original reports and analysis to support dealmaking
Create visual, data-driven presentations with clear narratives
Support training initiatives on contracts, royalty statements, and workflow best practices for Contract Administration
Support ongoing internal software development initiatives to manage Intellectual Property
Assist with data cleanup and organization to support future analysis
Stay abreast of industry trends and client activities
Provide support to Executive by managing task list and coordinating meetings
Qualifications:
BS or BA required with a concentration in Business, Finance, Economics or other quantitative discipline preferred
1-2+ years Royalty experience preferred
Experienced in research and analysis
Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills or equivalent
PowerPoint skills and presentation building experience
Must be exceptionally detail-oriented
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills including the ability to reprioritize quickly while maintaining a sharp focus on fulfilling requests
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and diplomacy
Adept at quickly learning new processes and technology
Familiarity with contracts is preferred
Appreciation and enthusiasm for books of all kinds is welcomed
Familiarity with a foreign language or languages and foreign currency transactions is welcomed
Location
This role can be based in our New York or Nashville office.
Compensation
The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $63,000 - $73,000 for New York and $55,000 - $65,000 for Nashville. This position also is eligible for benefits and a discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
