Core Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation: Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, ensuring patients are prepared for surgery both physically and emotionally.
Intraoperative Care: Collaborate with the surgical team to coordinate and deliver safe, effective care during procedures. Monitor vital signs and patient status, responding promptly to any changes.
Surgical Assistance: Provide direct assistance to the surgeon and surgical team, including handling instruments, supplies, and medications. Ensure a sterile environment is maintained throughout the procedure.
Patient Advocacy: Communicate with patients and their families, providing updates and ensuring their concerns are addressed before, during, and after surgery.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities and surgical procedures in compliance with institutional policies.
Postoperative Monitoring: Assess and monitor patients in the recovery area, ensuring safe transitions to post-anesthesia care and preparing for discharge.
Team Collaboration: Actively participate in interdisciplinary rounds and team meetings to discuss patient care plans and quality improvement initiatives.
Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to new nurses and surgical staff, promoting a culture of learning and professional development.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (preferred) or Associate degree in nursing required.
Current RN license (single state or multi-state compact) required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience in an operating room setting required.
Strong critical thinking, time management, and interpersonal skills.
Core Responsibilities:
Prepare the surgical suite, ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready for procedures.
Set up sterile tables, conduct surgical counts, and assist in maintaining a sterile field.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures and proactively suggest tools and techniques to enhance efficiency.
Participate in patient safety protocols, including time-outs and post-procedure checks.
Mentor and train new staff and students, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Engage in performance improvement initiatives to enhance surgical care practices.
Required Qualifications:
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (preferred) or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Minimum of 2 years of surgical tech experience.
Strong communication, multitasking, and critical-thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with a variety of surgical procedures.
Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
